Sylhet Circuit House bldg catches fire

A fire broke out at Sylhet circuit house building Wednesday morning. Deputy commissioner of Sylhet district, Joynal Abedin, said the fire originated from a short circuit around 11am and soon engulfed the rooms number 201 and 202. Being informed, fire fighting units rushed in and extinguished the blaze after half an hour’s efforts. By the time when the fire came under control two VIP rooms were already gutted by the fire.
Modern irrigation equipment use on rise
The use of irrigation equipment is on increase in Sylhet Division. The farmers of the Sylhet region were far behind in the use of modern irrigation equipment. But, in recent years things have changed. They are now more interested to adopt the modern agriculture techniques. Additional Director of DAE Sylhet Divisional Office Krishna Chandra Hore said the common farmers of the region were far behind in the use of modern irrigation equipment. During the current Boro season, a total of 43,530 irrigation equipment are being used in the division in addition to the use of traditional tools like done and others. It includes, 9267 in Sylhet, 5543 in Moulvibazar, 10,530 in Habiganj and 18,200 in Sunamganj districts. Of the total, 147 deep tubewells has brought 8727 hectraes of land under irrigation, while 7393 shallow tubewells cover 45,849 hectares and 35,990 low lift pumps cover 275,885 hectares of land. On the other hand, 51,828 traditional modes of irrigation cover another 55,797 hectres of Boro lands, the sources informed.
Mobile court fines brick kilns in Bholahat

 A mobile court in Bholahat upazila in the district realized Tk. 1,50,000 as fine for running unlicensed brick kilns on Wednesday. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 sources said an operation team of RAB from Chapainawabganj camp along with executive magistrate Abul Hayat Md Rafiq conducted the drives at Bargachi area of the upazila at afternoon and fined Messers HTL Bricks, Messers Tata Bricks and Messers R&B Bricks of Tk. 50,000 each for running unlicensed kilns.
Three Yaba traders arrested in Pabna
PABNA : Police arrested three yaba traders from Pabna Mohila College at Bangura of Pabna Sadar on Tuesday night. Police recovered 300 pieces of yaba tablets from their possession. Arrested persons are police constable Golam Sarwar 35, Shuva 18 and Tariqul Islam 26. Officer in Charge (OC) of Bangura Thana Abu Zafar said local people detained them while they were selling 300 pieces of yaba tablets in front of Pabna Mohila College on Tuesday. Receiving information police rushed to the spot and arrested them and recovered 300 pieces of yaba tablets from their possession. Golam Sarwar is working as a constable in Jugipara police outpost in Rajshahi. A case was registered with Bangura Thana. They were produced before the court today and the court sent them to jail custody, reports BSS.
Joypurhat Jamaat Ameer held
JOYPURHAT: Detectives in a drive arrested the Joypurhat district unit Jamaat-e-Islami ameer from in front of Muslimnagar Women’s College on the edge of the district town on Thursday.Tipped off, a team of the Detective Branch of police arrested Hasibul Alam Liton, ameer of Joypurhat district town unit Jamaat-e-Islami and vice-chairman of Sadar upazila, from the area on way home around 10 am, said Mahfuzur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the district DB police.The arrestee was wanted in several cases, including for arson attack, said Farid Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, reports UNB.
