The chief Engineer of Local Government and Engineering Department [LGED], Shama Prasad Adhikari called upon the engineers to ensure cent percent development works completion and quality by the ongoing fiscal year. He was addressing as chief guest an implementation of on-going development works evaluation meeting at Zilla Parishad Community center of the city on Friday. LGED has been implementing about Tk 16 thousands core development works in the country. Of them, major parts of the works were being implemented in the districts of Rangpur division. Besides the GOB fund, World Bank, ADB, JAICA and Saudia Government have been funding for the projects including urban, rural infrastructural and water resource development. Some 35 development projects work were being implemented in the districts of Rangpur division. The government of Bangladesh has also been implementing projects worth Tk 190 cores for the infrastructural development of the recently abolished enclave dwellers. LGED has been implementing a bridge of 1490 meters long over Teesta River in Lalmonirhat district with the funding of Government of Bangladesh and Saudia Arabia.
4 suspected robbers held in Moulvibazar

Police arrested four suspected robbers while taking preparation to commit robbery at College Road in Srimangal upazila on Friday. Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested four suspected robbers–Majid Mia, 35, son of Kadir Mia; Jonab Ali alias Zinayed, 50, son of Ayub Ali; Ramsu Mia, 45, son of Tota Mia, and Rabiul Islam, 30, son of Phul Mia of Kulaura upazila, around 3 pm, said Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Srimangal Police Station. Police also recovered some sharp weapons and an iron rod from their possession. The arrestees were members of an inter-district robber gang and they were wanted in several cases, said the OC.
25 houses torched in Habiganj
At least 25 houses were torched over the death of a youth at Chota Bahula village in Habiganj Sadar upazila on Friday. Police and locals said there was a longstanding dispute between two groups at the village over establishing supremacy. Following the previous enmity, one of the ears of Kutub Uddin was severed by the rivals two months ago.
In retaliation, the opponent group cut off an ear and a hand of Abdul Aziz on February 19. Aziz succumbed to his injuries at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Friday noon. Outraged by the death of Aziz, his group went berserk and set fire to 25 houses belonging to the rivals. On information, two fire-fighting units from Habiganj and Shayestaganj rushed in and doused the blaze after three hours, said officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Nazim Uddin.
Free Eye camp in Jamalpur

The Chief Guest in the inaugural programme was Adv Khalilur Rahman of Bangladesh Supreme Court, the younger brother of Dr. Atiar Rahman, Governor, Bangladesh Bank. Presided over by Freedom Fighter Shafiqul Islam Bhuyia the special guests in the eye camp were expatriate Canadian Engineer Orno Komolika, the daughter of BB Governor Jonb Mustafizur Rahman, MD Central Hospital, Jamalpur, Shamsul Huda, philanthropist, Abbas Uddin, Headmaster, Advocate Khalilur Rahman High School and Abdul Hakim Khan, Union Parishad Chairman, Debidwar UP, Comilla. The Eye camp was conducted by Abdul Wadud, the Founder and Executive Director, Bandhu Unnayan Songstha.
Housewife killed by husband in Kurigram

One house wife was murdered by his cruel husband at Roumari upazila in Kurigram district on Thursday.The deceased was identified as Morium Begum,36 daughter of Hazrat Ali of village Baitkamari under Roumari upazila.Locals said their daughter Monwara was going for college both husband and wife exchanged hot words following the incident and at one stage of their altercation the cruel husband Hazrat Ali chopped his wife in the throat with a sharp weapon. The house wife was killed on the spot.Being informed Roumari thana police rushed to the spot and arrested the killer husband. A case was filed with thana police.OC of Roumari police station ABM Sajedul Islam admitted the matter.
Road crash kills one in Shibganj

A motorcycle rider was killed and another injured in a road mishap last night at Pukuria under Shibganj upazila of the district. The deceased was identified as Nasim Ahmed, 50, son of late Badrul Miah of Kansat Bazaar area of the upazila. Police said the accident occurred when a motorcycle hit a standing truck in the area, leaving motorcycle riders Nasim and Johurul injured. They were sent to Shibganj Upazila Health Complex where Nasim succumbed to his injuries. Johurul was shifted to Rajahahi Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Two held with 200 forged Indian currency notes

Police arrested two alleged smugglers with 200 fake Indian currency notes from a passenger bus at Jhalmalia checkpoint on Rajshahi-Dhaka highway under Puthiya Upazila of the district today, police sources said. The detained persons were identified as Sadequl Islam, 40, and Seher Ali, 50, both hailed from Kaligonj village under Shibgonj Upazila of Chapainawabgonj district. On a tip-off, a police team stopped a Dhaka bound bus and held them from inside the vehicle. Subsequently, the police team seized 200 fake currency notes with denomination of Rs 500 each after frisking them.
A case was recorded in this connection.
