Abducted student rescued in Sailkupa

A college student abducted from Moheshpur upazila in the district was rescued after 10 days from Harihara village in Sailkupa upazila after a gunfight between the abductors and police on Thursday morning. The police recovered a local shutter gun with two rounds of ammunitions from the possessions of the abductors. The abducted was identified as Ariful Islam, son of Asadul Islam of Lebutala village of Moheshpur. He was a second year student of degree in Moheshpur Government Degree College. Sailkupa police said, Ariful was abducted from his relative’s house at Nalkhola village of Sailkupa on February 10 last during a visit. The abductors demanded Taka two lakh and fifty thousand as ransom from the family members over cell phone. Asadul Haque filed a case with Moheshpur and Sailkupa police stations in this connection on the next day. Later , the abductors assured the family members to release Ariful Islam for Taka 50 thousand.
Minor boy killed in Sylhet road mishap

A child was killed in a road accident on Saturday at Satmile area on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Dakkhin Surma upazila under Sylhet district. The deceased was identified as Seju Mia, 9, son of Late Kanai Mia of the area. Witnesses said a private car hit Seju and his mother Ruhena Begum at Satmile area at around 1:00pm leaving them seriously injured. Later witnesses took them to hospital but on-duty doctor declared Seju dead. Officer-in-Charge of Dakkhin Surma Police Sation Ataur Rahman said dead body was sent to Sylhet MAG Osmai Medical Collage Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Mobile court destroys adulterated food in Gomostapur

A mobile court here on Tuesday destroyed adulterated foods of an unauthorized factory worth Tk. 1,10,500 and fined its owner of Tk. 20,000 for producing adulterated foods at Noongola village under Gomostapur upazila in Chapainawabganj district. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 conducted the mobile court led by executive magistrate Md. Mamunur Rashid. RAB said, an operation team of RAB from Chapainawabganj camp conducted the mobile court at the factory owned by Mohammad Ali Panna at around 10-45 am and the judge of the mobile court ordered to destroy the adulterated foods and fined him. After realizing the fine, the money was deposited with the government treasury, the sources added. The sources added that Mohammad Ali Panna was conducting the business without any license.
Properties worth Tk 30 lakh gutted in Chitalmari

Properties worth Tk.30 Lakh were gutted when a big fire broke out in Shayampara village market under Chitalmari Upazila in Bagerhat district on Saturday night. It is reported that at 11 pm the fire originated from an electricity short circuit in a business enterprise belonging to one Kalam Kazi and spread to it its adjacent houses and went out of control within minutes. On seeing the flame of fire the local people rushed to the spot and tried to extinguish the fire but in vain.
Being informed of the matter one fire brigade rushed to the spot from Tungipara and another from Bagerhat rushed to the place of occurrence and brought the fire under control after a long fighting for more than one hour. But in spite of that a grocery shop, a rice mill, a feed mill, a shop of fertilizers and pesticides, a go-down of fish feed and a dwelling house were completely burnt to ashes with their all belongings.

The loss of fire is Tk.30 lakh, according to a primary assessment.
Md. Farid Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Chitalmari, Md. Rashed Shaikh, Upazila Vice-chairman of Chitalmari and Mohon Ali Biswas, former president of Chitalmari Upazila Chatra League visited the placed of occurrence and consoled the fire victims.
