Two houses looted in Sylhet

Robbers looted gold ornaments, cash and other valuables worth about Tk 20 lakh from two houses from the city’s Dakkhin Surma area on early Sunday. Victims and locals said a gang of armed robbers numbering 10 to 12 stormed the house of Sahedul Islam in Mohammadpur area of Dakkhin Surma at around 3:00am breaking open the door and held the family members hostage at gunpoint and looted 17 grams of gold ornaments, Tk 4 lakh cash, 13 mobile phone sets and other valuables total worth TK 12 lakh from the house. In the mean time, another gang of robbers stormed the house of Rafiq Mia by breaking open the door and looted 7 grams of gold ornaments, Tk 2 lakh cash, 4 mobile phone sets and other valuables worth Tk 8 lakh hosting the family members at gunpoint
Sylhet CNG strike withdrawn
The indefinite CNG strike, imposed in Sylhet division on Sunday morning has been withdrawn in the evening considering the sufferings of commuters. The decision of withdrawal was made at a meeting held at Depudy commissioner office in Sylhet district around 5:30pm. Sylhet Additional deputy commissioner (ADC), Md. Shohidul Islam Chaudhury, ASP Suggan Chakma, Additional Police Commissioner Nikulin Chakma, administration officials and Sylhet district CNG union and transport labor organization leaders attended the meeting. ADC Md. Shohidul Islam Chaudhury told that they have made a decision considering the demands both from the transport leaders and local administration.
4 drug peddlers awarded 6-month imprisonment

A mobile court in Moheshpur upazila under Jhenaidah on Tuesday morning sentenced four drug peddlers to six month’s imprisonment. The convicts are Abdus Salam, 50, son of Budo Mandal of Samanta village, Nuru Haque, 60, son of Abdul Haque, Zahida Khatun, 52, wife of Abul Hossain and Abdus Sattar, 52, son of Sona Mia of Islampur village under the upazila. Officer- in -charge of Mohehspur police station Aminul Islam Biplob said, assistant commissioner of land, also an executive magistrate Rowshan Islam led the court. The convicts were engagaed in drug peddling in the bordering area for a long time.
Three-day street theater festival ends in Nawapara

A three-day street theater festival arranged by Bangladesh Group Theater Federation and organized by Kathakali theater group of Nawapara in Jessore, ended Saturday at Nawapara Shankarpasha Secondary School ground. The festival was inaugurated by former secretary Nazrul Islam Khan in presence of eminent entrepreneur Shah Jalal Hossain. GM Mehedi Hasan Kader, organizer of the festival told New Nation that a total of 18 theater groups and cultural organization took part the festival that was kicked off on February 11. Dr Humayun Kabir, deputy commissioner, Jessore was the chief guest at the concluding session of the festival. Shuktagni Natya Sangstha, Khulna, Ankur Natya Academy, Jhenaidah, Deepalok Academy, Satkhira, Jugantor Sangskritik Sangsad, Narail, Bihanga Sangskritik Charcha Kendra, Jhenaidah, Rudra Natyadal, Bagerhat, Kalpurush Narya Goshthi, , Kaligonj, Tirjok Jessore, Manchakatha, Khulna, Bibartan Jessore, Ananya 79 Natyadal, Kushtia, Bibartan Jhikargachha, Binoymani Theater, Daulatpur, Sundali Madhyamik Bidyalaya, Nawapara Shankarpasha Secondary School, Saptarshi Sangeet Bidyalaya, Nawapara, Bangla Theater, Kushtia and Kathakali of Nawapara performed plays and other cultural programmes in the festival, Mehedia Hasan added.
