Robbers loot valuables worth Tk 10 lakh

Robbers looted valuables from a house at Khadimpara in Sadar upazila on Friday. Quoting locals, police said a gang of armed robbers, numbering 10-12, stormed the house of one Sohel Ahmed and kept the house inmates hostage at gunpoint in the early morning.The robbers then looted valuables worth Tk 10 lakh, including Tk2 lakh, 10 tolas of gold ornaments, five mobile phone sets and one tab, and fled with the booty. Locals claimed that frequent robbery incidents were taking place in the area for no patrolling by the law enforcers in the area at night. Earlier, robbers looted valuables worth TK 15 lakh from a house in the same area three days before the incident. Nizam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Shah Paran Police Station, said police are trying to arrest the robbers.
One held with alcohol in Bhangoora

Police recovered alcohol in local factory in the village of Moish Hat under Mondutos Union Parishad in Bhangoora upazila on Sunday afternoon. Bhangoora Municipal Councilor (word no.4) Abdur Rahim went for a walk in the village and discovered the factory. He informed the police then sub-inspector Shah Alam and Masud Rana recovered a drum of local wine-making raw materials from the scene. Police arested the owners Amirul Islam (32). He said, his brother Monirul Islam and neighbors Saidul Islam had been marketing for a long time and producing the local wine.Officer in-Charge Abu Zafar confirming the incident told that a casr was filed in this regard.

Pahela Falgun, the first day of spring in the Bangla seasonal and 13th February on Christian calendars, has been greeted and observed in Barisal with spontaneous enthusiasm on Saturday singing ‘let there be flowers bloomed or not, today spring is knocking at the door’ . Barisal Natok and Udichi Shilpi Gosthi Barisal branch in associations with 11 other cultural organisations, arranged the traditional Basanto Baron Ustav at Saraswati School ground on Saturday evening. Nikhil Sen, noted cultural activist, inaugurated the programme. Students of Barisal Govt. Women’s College and B M College in their campus on Saturday welcomed ‘king of the seasons’ with the call ‘Let us take shower of joy under the flow of the spring’. Other cultural organizations also arranged Basnto Baron Utsav at different parts of the city on this occasion. Songs, dances, recitations, talks and exchange of greetings and gifts and presentations by tradition loving people and songs by leading singers, presented in the programmes.
