Octogenarian killed over trifling matter in Sunamganj

An elderly man died from injuries he received during a brawl with his neighbours over a trifling matter such a quarrel among children at Kabirpur village in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj district on Monday night. The deceased was identified as Mokhles Ullah, 80, son of late Makram Ullah of the village, according to a news agency report. Quoting villagers, Mohammad Mursalin, officer-in-charge of Jagannathpur village, said children of the families of Mokhles Ullah and his neighbour Abdul Khalek had quarrel during playing in the house yard in the evening. Over the issue, Khalek hit Mokhles with elbow, leaving him critically injured. Later, he was rushed to Jagannathpur upazila health complex where he succumbed to his injuries around 11:00 pm.
Barisal Dist Bar Association election held

The annual election of Barisal district bar association held peacefully on Thursday . A total 708 out of 797 voters cast their votes in the election including 16 sick and physically unfit voters, who cast their votes at home before the visiting team of this election commission. Counting of cast votes started after 6:00 PM. Result would be declared officially on Friday early morning, said Advocate Vanuranjan Das, chief commissioner of this election. In the election 43 candidates from Sammilito Ainjibi Oikya Parishad and Bangabandhu Aijinbi Parishad, two panels of AL-led 14-party alliance supporter- advocates, and Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, supporters of BNP-led 20-party alliance, contested for 16 posts of the executive body of the association.Adv Mojibor Rahman and Harunor Rashid, president and secretary candidates of SAOP, Saiful Alam Gias and Delwar Hossain Dilu, president and secretary candidates of BAP and Abul Kalam Azad and Nazimuddin Ahmed Panna, President and Secretary candidates of JAF, were leading their respective panels.
Factory fined Tk 50,000 for producing polythene
Benapole (Jessore): A mobile court here on Thursday night fined a factory Tk50,000 for illegally producing non-biodegradable polythene at Nazir Shankarpur in Jessore district town after 250 kilograms of banned polythene were seized from there. The mobile court led by executive magistrate Sazia Afrin detected that hanging up the signboard of ‘Bismillah Hatchery and Saleha Metal Industries’ the factory authorities had long been producing polythene bags there without any authorisation and slapped a fine of Tk50,0000. Earlier, members of Rapid-Action Battalion (Rab)-6 conducted a raid inside the factory and seized 250 kgs of polythene which were being produced at night, reports UNB.
Man held with foreign liquor in Patuakhali
PATUAKHALI: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested a man along with 23 bottles of foreign liquor from a jewellery shop at Natun Bazar in the district town on Thursday night. The arrested was identified as Suman Karmakar, 35, owner of Parama Jewelers’ in the market. Company Commander of Patuakhali Rab-8 ASP Faqzlur Rahman said on secrete information, a team of the elite force conducted a raid at Parama Jewelers’ around 8.30pm and arrested Suman along with 23 bottles of foreign liquor with different labels, reports UNB.
