Fertilizer, seed distributed among fermars

Fertilizer, seed and money were distributed among four thousands 50 farmers of 15 unions at Gafargaon Upazila under Mymensingh recently. According to commitment of the present Government, Upazila Agriculture office allotted these for the development of the poor and marginal farmers .Upazila Agriculture officer Saiful Islam said, the Government is helping the low and marginal farmers for Aus cultivation. UNO Md Rejaul Bari, Abdullah Al-Amin Biplob, President of the Press Club and Shiekh Abdul Awal, General Secretary of the Press Club were also present at the programme.
Journalist S Ali passes away

S Ali Muhammad, senior journalist, cultural activists and writer of the city, passed away at 3:00 pm on Wednesday afternoon in his residence at Line Road area of the city. He was 96 and left five daughters, two sons, number relatives, admires followers. He was suffering from old age complications since long days, told his eldest son S Sunny Muhammad. Sheikh Ali Muhammad, popularly known as ‘Ali-Bhai’ in the city, was son of Sheikh Jaban Ali and Dulaijan Bibi and born on January 10, 1918 at Meur village under Garuria union of Bakerganj. He started his writing from boy hood at Mukuler Mahfil of Daily Azad and joined at daily Azadi as junior reporter after passing Matriculation examination in 1942. Then he worked for monthly Mohammadia, Rupmancha, Nau Joan, and Proviva till 1950. He joined at weekly Khadem of Barisal and became executive editor of that in 1956 and worked there till 1998. S Ali Muhammad visited Poet Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, and Jibanananda Das during their life time, close relation with Poet Ahsan Habib, writer politician Abul Mansur Ahmed and wrote poems, stories, articles at different newspapers and periodicals of the then east and west Bengal and Bangladesh.
15 students beaten by teacher in Bogra

A teacher of Kollani Government Primary school under Sherpur upazila beat 15 students of class five recently. Among them the hands of two students were broken and they were rushed to Sherpur health complex for treatment immediately. The victim students are identified as Aminur, 10 and Nuhu, 10, of class five of the school under Shughat union of the upazila. Local sources said that the headmaster of the school Belal Hossain beaten the students because they were watching TV beside the school as the class had not been taken by the teacher in proper time and after the accident the accused headmaster was encircled in the office. Later a team of police rushed to the spot and recovered the teacher from encircling and rushed him to police station. Contacted, Upazila Education Officer Masud Rana said that departmental action will be taken against the teacher as the teacher violates the law by torturing the students physically. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Sherpur police station Ali Ahmad Hashmi said that on information police rescued the headmaster and police have identified 11 injured students of the area for the physically assault victims so far. The teacher was hand over to the president of the managing committee of school on Monday mid-night by taking undertaken as the victim students’ guardians did not file allegation against the headmaster but contrary they defended the teacher.
Schoolboy drowns in Savar

A schoolboy drowned in a abandoned ditch of vagolpur area of Savar on Tuesday noon. The deceased was identified as Hossain ali, 10, son of Sohid uddin of the area and student of class 5 of local school. Deceased family said, Hossian had gone to school in the morning but he was not coming back from school after closed the school. Then he was searched several places of the area. One time their neighbors saw him floated on the ditch which is near of their house. At the time on information police recovered his dead body from the ditch.
Dipok Chandra saha, officer in charge (Investigation), Savar police station said deceased body handed over to his family because of absence any complain and an ED case was filed with this connection.
One to die for killing wife in Manikganj
Manikganj A court here on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife for dowry in 2010. The court was also fined the convict, Abu Hanif, son of Korban Ali, a resident of Dhankora village in Saturia upazila, Tk20,000. According to the prosecution, Hanif strangled his pregnant wife Parvin to death while she was asleep, following a feud over dowry, on November 1, 2010. Victim’s brother Farhad Hossain filed a case with Saturia Police Station. Later, police arrested Hanif. Police submitted the charge sheet on October 5, 2011. After examining the records and eight witnesses, Judge Al Mahmud Faijul Kabir of the District and Sessions Judge’s Court handed down the verdict, reports UNB.
