Cyber accused Haq, Aminur sent to jail

Two cyber accused, Abdul Haq and Aminur Rahman, were sent to Sylhet central jail after ending their police remand here yesterday. Police produced them before the metropolitan magistrate Mamunur Rahman Siddiqi court after ending their remand in a case filed over issuance of death threat to Law Minister Anisul Haq and the court sent them to jail. Investigation officer of the case inspector Shibendrachandra Das produced the duo before the court with a plea for three-day remand on January 11. The investigation officer told the news agency the accused confessed about their involvement in issuing of death threats to 153 eminent citizens in last couple of years. Eminent citizens, including finance minister AMA Muhith, agriculture minister Motia Chowdhury, former law minister Shafique Ahmed, Prof Anisuzzaman, Prof Zafar Ikbal, Prof Muntasir Mamun, journalist Mizanur Rahman Khan and journalist Shahriar Kabir, received death threats.
Abdul Haque was arrested on November 24 while Aminur Rahman arrested a day after the arrest of Haq.
Minor girl killed in M’ bazar road crash
A minor girl was killed in Akborpur area in Moulobibazar- Sreemongol Road on Wednesday morning. The deceased was identified as Suma Akther, 6, a School student of Akborpur Government Primary School. Abdus Salak, officer-in-charge of Moulobibazar Model Police Station, confirmed the metter.
One held with yaba in Madaripur
MADARIPUR: Police arrested an alleged drug trader with 6,000 pieces of yaba tablets from Kutubpur area under Shibchar upazila on Thursday. The arrested was identified as Arif Matabbar, 28, a native of Gopalpur union under Shariatpur district. Acting on a tip off, a team of police of Shibchar thana conducted a drive in Kutubpur area and arrested Arif with the yaba. Mohammad Sarwar Hossain, police super of Madaripur district, said Arif is a top drug trader of the area. A case was recorded with Shibchar thana under the Narcotic Controlled Act in this connection, reports BSS.
Cultural competition held in Gaibandha

Annual literary and cultural competitions including the 34th founding anniversary of Ahammad Uddin Shah Shishu Niketan School and College (AUSSNSC) are being held on its premises in the town from February 3. To mark the competitions and the anniversary, the authorities of the academic institution have chalked out the elaborate programmes like the previous years. The programmes include publishing souvenir, essay writing, poems reciting, rendering songs, performing dances and reception to the GPA 5 holder students and their guardians and hold milad and doa mahfil side by side with arranging different games. Deputy speaker of the Jatiya Sangshad Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah will attend the concluding ceremony on February 7 as the chief guest. Rabbi, also the Trustee Board member of the institute, would distribute prizes to the winners and crests to the brilliant students who achieved GPA-5 in SSC and HSC exams from the college in 2015 as the chief guest. Earlier, chairman of the trustee board and president of Gaibandha Chamber of Commerce and Industry Shajada Anwarul Quadir formally inaugurated the competitions on February 3 as the chief guest, said Muhammad Ramzan Ali, principal of AUSSNSC.
