1 killed in road accidents

A minor boy were killed road accidents in Sylhet districts on Tuesday. madrasah student Shahin Ahmed, 12, was killed and 11 people were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a human hauler at Chamelibag on the Sylhet-Tamabil road in the city on Tuesday afternoon. Officer-in-charge of Shahparan Police Station Nizam Uddin said the bus collided head-on with the human hauler in the area around 5pm, leaving 12 people, including Shahin, injured.The injured were whisked off to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where Shahin succumbed to his injuries, the OC added. However, police seized the bus and the human hauler.
72 school students get prize for book reading

A total of 3500 students from 72 schools in Sylhet city received prizes for laudable performance in book reading here on Tuesday. They get the prizes in a colourful prize distribution festival held at Star Fecifice Hotel in Sylhet City premises. Executive Director of Uk Bangladesh Education Trust Asaduzzaman Sayme opened the festival before a large number of book-loving people including students. More than 5,500 students took part in the year-round book reading programme for flourishing their latent talents. Deputy Director of British Council Mat puci. Regional Director Mark Stefance Library Manager Sarowat Reza spoke on the occasion. Woman held with pistol, ammo in Naogaon

Police arrested a young woman in possession of a foreign-made pistol, six rounds of bullet and two magazines from Gopinagar area in Patnitala upazila on Wednesday night. Officer-in-charge of Patnitala Police Station Azim Uddin said tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Rina Khatun,28, wife of an alleged drug peddler, Mukul Hossain, of the area, at about 8:30 pm. The law enforcers also recovered a foreign-made pistol, six rounds of bullet and two magazines after searching her body.
Dacoits looted valuable things in Meherpur
MEHERPUR: A gang of robbers looted valuable things from a house at Dhepa village under Gangni upazila of the district on Wednesday night. The dacoits also injured two persons. The injured are Rejaul Hoque, 50, and his son Osman Hossain, 22, of the village. The injured were admitted to Meherpur general hospital. Officer in-Charge of Gangni Thana Akram Hossain, quoting witnesses, said 10 to 12 robbers came to the house and looted the goods. All robbers managed to flee the scene, the OC added, reports BSS.
Drug-paddler held with phensidyl
RAJSHAHI: During an anti-crime drive police arrested an alleged drug-paddler with 648 bottles of phensidyl and a truck at Jhalmalia area on Rajshahi-Dhaka highway under Puthiya Upazila of the district yesterday, police sources said. The detained person was identified as Mithun, 35, son of late Soim Uddin Sarder of Tangan village under Charghat Upazila. On a tip-off, a police team halted a Dhaka bound stone-laden truck and recovered the phensidyl after searching the truck, reports BSS.
