A day- long workshop on ” safe motherhood and family planning ” for journalists was held here on Saturday . The speakers in the workshop said that the media persons could play a vital role to let the people know about the ways and methods to prevent the death of pregnant mothers and newly born babies, ensuring their proper medicare services and nutrition and checking population boom. They also viewed that the journalists could highlight the actual picture of the society through projecting investigating reports for building up public opinions to remove all the barriers including superstitions, child marriage, fundamentalism, women repression and drug addiction on the way to take family planning methods and ensure safe motherhood and proper health care services to the newly born babies. Netrakona district family planning department organized the workshop at the conference room of Netrakona DC office here today to sensitizing the news persons for creating mass awareness on the necessity of taking the government sponsored health care and family planning services to ensure safe motherhood, reduce maternal and child mortality rate and maintain small and planned family, the organizers said.
Experience sharing meet on diversion , Children’s Act held

A day long experience sharing meeting on child protection and Children’s Act 2013 was held at hotel Castle Salam, Khulna recently. It was organised by JJS and UNICEF . To ensure child protection through diversion for the well-being of the children was the main topic of the meeting. Mahbub Hakim, Additional Police Commissioner , KMP was the chief guest and Sheikh Abdul Hamid, Deputy Director, Social Service Department, Md. Kafil Uddin, Head of Zone, UNICEF, Khulna, Mr. Md. Shofiqul Islam, Probation Officer, CMM court, Md. Jamil Hasan, Child Protection Officer, Unicef were special guest of the meeting. ATM Zakir Hossain, Executive Director, JJS presided over the meeting. It was discussed in the meeting that no children with minor offense should go through court procedure rather applying diversion, (section-48 of children act 2013). In the sharing meeting it was reported that 53 children with minor offense have been handed over to their families through diversion from different KMP police stations from January to December 2015. The meeting focused on diversion process and community involvement practice in Khulna and Jessore. The chief guest Mr. Md. Mahbub Hakim, Additional Police Commissioner of KMP addressed.
