Properties worth Tk.25 lakh gutted in Chitalmari

Properties worth Tk.25 lakh were gutted when a cotton go-down cum a quilt factory belonging to one Monir Shikdar of Nalua bazar under Chitalmari Upazila in Bagerhat district caught fire on Tuesday morning. It is stated that in the morning at 10 am the cotton go-down, some how, caught fire and within moments it went out of control. The local people tried to extinguish the fire, but in vain. Being informed of the matter 2 fire units one from Tungipara and another from Bagerhat rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after a long fighting for one hour. But in spite of that properties worth Tk .25 were gutted. The cause of the fire yet to be ascertained. But according to the owner of the factory, it caught fire due to the carelessness of the workers of the factory. Md. Farid Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Chitalmari visited the place of occurrence.

Mymensingh Cant Public School annual sports held

 The concluding ceremony of a 3- day-long 23rd annual sports competition of Cantonment of Public School and College was held on Monday. GOC of 19 Infantry Division and the Area Commander Major General Feroz Hassan, NDU, PSC, Ghatail area was present as Chief Guest while Mrs. Rebecca Hasan was present as a special guest. Chairman of the Board of Directors, 77 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Mohammad Sajjad Hossain AFW, PSC, of Momenshahi Cantonment was also present. Military officers, civil servants and guardians and the principal of the institution Lieutenant Colonel Md Shahidul Hassan, SEUP. The programme began by a combined parade. The chief guest took salute of the parade.

BCL men chase two fellows at RU

A group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Rajshahi University Unit on Sunday chased two fellow activists who were loyal to recently suspended BCL university unit president Mizanur Rahman, for beating up on campus. However, with the assistance of police and university authority, they left the campus safely. Campus sources said, Anwrul Islam Shuvro, BCL RU unit deputy publicity affairs secretary and activist Kamruzzaman Liton came on campus to appear final exam of masters’ year. “Centering previous conflict, a group of BCL leaders and activists led by RU unit member Sakibul Hasan Baki and activist Anik Mahmud Boni chased the duo while Shuvro and Liton took shelter inside a teacher’s room”, witnesses said. Being informed, university authority and police rushed to the spot and brought Shuvro and Liton in police cavard van. Contacted, Ashok Chouhan, Officer-In-Charge of Motihar police station said, they released the duo immediately after leaving campus as no cases were found against them. BCL RU unit acting president Rashedul Islam Ranju said, a group of our leaders and activists chased them.
But for the sake of peaceful atmosphere of campus, we sent Shuvro and Liton safely with the assistance of law enforcers.

Jamaat leader held in Sylhet

Police detained a local Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leader from Sobhanighat area of the city on Tuesday for several cases and on subversion charges. The detainee was identified as Yasin Khan, 35, a leader of the Sylhet city unit Jamaat and law affairs secretary of Mohanagar Shramik Kollayan Federation, son of Jafor Ali Khan, a resident of Pailgaon village under Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj district. According to police, tipped off a team of police led by Jagannathpur thana officer in-charge Md Mursalin and SI Mizanur Rahman conducted a drive in the area and detained him. He was a warranted accuse in 25 cases including murder, police assault and subversive activities, OC added.
