15 injured in Jhenaidah clash

At least 15 villagers including three police men were injured during a clash at Sherpur village under Sailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah on Monday morning. Police opened 21 rounds of shots to disperse the clashers. Dispute over a piece of land was mainly liable for the clash, the police said. Police and locals said, following the enmity between village leaders Tobarak Hossain and Makhan, both the groups were locked in a severe clash at about 8.30 in the morning. About 200 people in both groups engaged in the clash with Dhal, Falla, stick and other lethal weapons continued for about an hour. The police rushed the spot and opened 21 rounds of blank shots to disperse the villagers. Three police men including sub inspector Sunil Kumar and about 12 clashers sustained injuries. Of them five were rushed to Sailkupa upazila health complex. Sailkupa police officer in charge Tojammel Haque said, the situation was under control as additional police forces were deployed there. No case was filed till Monday afternoon, the police said.
20 rickshaws distributed

Help The Needy, a volunteer organization distributed rickshaw and van among 20 vulnerable people at free of cost yesterday. The organization through a ceremony at a community centre in Rangpur city handed the rickshaws and vans to 20 ultrapoor people. The Mayor of Rangpur city corporation Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhontu was the chief guest in the ceremony. Among others who were present in the function include project coordinator of the organization Md. Suzan Khandaker, ward councilor Hafiz Ahmed Chuttu, Football player Farhan Sahil and sports organizer Nazmul Hoque Montu. Help The Needy with the assistance of RAF extends cooperation with several income generating activities to the poorest of the poor.
Digital Innovation Fair begins in Bagerhat

To create awareness among the people about the information e-service a 3-day (from January 25 to January 27) ‘Digital Innovation, Science & Technology’ fair was ceremonially inaugurate in the local Swadhinata Udyan by Md. Jahangir Alam, DC, Bagerhat in presence of a large gathering on Monday in the morning.As maany as 45 stalls were sprung around the fair. Earlier, a colourful rally that was brought out from Swadhinata Udyan paraded the main thoroughfares of the district town. It was led by Md. Jahangir Alam, DC, Bagerhat and it was attended by the teachers, students, lawyers, journalists, businessmen etc. After the rally a discussion meeting was held.
Man gets 2 years’ jail for taking hemp in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A mobile court here on Sunday sentenced a man to two years imprisonment for taking hemp in Paba upazila of the district. The convict was identified as Asadul, 35, son of Belaet Hosen, a resident of Sorisahkury Dighipara of the upazila. Sariful Islam, officer-in charge of Paba Police Station, said on secret information the mobile court let by Executive Magistrate Selim Hossain conducted a drive in Huzripara union perished around 12pm and arrested Asadul. Later the court handed down the punishment to him.
