Foundation stone of the administrative building of Nawabganj Government College was laid on Saturday. Abdul Wadud MP laid the foundation stone as the chief guest. A simple function was arranged on the occasion on the college premises with the principal of the college Professor Sultana Razia in the chair. Among others, principal of Krisnagobindapur College Saidur Rahman, freedom fighter Professor Md. Ibrahim, Advocate Mizanur Rahman and others spoke on the occasion. Education Engineering Department would construct the building under its ‘Post Graduate Colleges Development Project’ at a cost of Tk. 1,49, 72,978, sources said. The construction work is expected to be finished within a year.

An Australian national was mugged on way to Benapole early Saturday. He was returning from Biswa Ijtima intending to return to Australia via India on the day, police said. The victim is identified as Minaruddin, 55, Bangladesh born Australian citizen, said Solaiman Akkas, sub inspector, Kotwali police station. The police official told that muggers took away valuables including a good amount of US dollar from a Benapole bound bus of Hanif Paribahan after making him senseless. But his luggage and the passport were not lost.
Schoolgirl electrocuted in Jessore. A schoolgirl was electrocuted at Dohakhola village under Bagharpara upazila in Jessore on Friday night. The dead was identified as Nazmin Nahar, 14, student of class IX of Bagharpara Secondary School and daughter of Yusuf Ali of Dohakhola village. Locals said the attending doctor declared the schoolgirl dead after she was rushed to Bagharpara upazila health complex. She was taken to the health complex after being hurt from electrification at the time of boiling water at around 9:30pm on Friday.

A contractor met his tragic end and his wife and minor son were seriously injured when his motor cycle collided head on with a speeding passenger on Bagehat-Pirojpur Highway at Shibpur under Kachua Upazila in Bagehat on Friday morning.The contractor was identified as one Nur Mohammad Molla (45) of village Mohammadpur under Gantabbapur Union Parishad in Chandpur district. The injured wife is Parveen Begum (32) and son is Saikat (6). According to the police of Kachua PS, the deceased was returning to Sighnboard Bazar under Kachua PS along with his wife and son by a motor cycle and when he reached the place of occurrence the accident took place. As a result, all of them were seriously injured. Nur Mohammad succumbed to his injuries on his way to the hospital.
