One killed in Sylhet road crash

A Saudi expatriate was killed in a road accident in Dhamaichhara area of Rajnagar upazila in Muulvibazar on Sunday.The deceased was identified as Kutub Uddin, 45, a resident of Mallickpur village of Fenchuganj upazila in Sylhet and a Saudi expatriate.He is the brother of Senior journalist Riaz Uddin Ishka.Family sources said the accident took place in the area in the evening as a CNG run auto-rickshaw carrying him collided with another one while he was returning from a marriage ceremony, leaving him critically injured. Later, he was rushed to Sylhet Ibn Sina Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 12am.
‘Jannagner Mukhomukhi function held in Bagerhat

Under the auspices of SANAC (Sachetan Nagarik Committee), Bagerhat and with the assistance of Jatrapur Union Parishad a function styled as ‘Jannagner Mukhomukhi (face the people)’ was held in Jatrapur Union Parishad office premises at Jatrapur under Sadar Upazila in the district on Saturday afternoon with Adv. Ramkrisna Bosu, President of Bagerhat SANAC in the chair in order to establish transparency, accountability and good governance in the local governments. The address of welcome was given by Prof. ABM. Mosharraf Husain, Vice President of SANAC, Bagerhat. In his address he explained the aims and objects of SANAC, Bagerhat as well as of TIB (Transparency International Bangladesh) and holding of such a function. It was attended by the cross section of people of the Union Parishad. In the function they (people) put a number of questions to the UP Chairman regarding the construction of roads, culverts, removing of water logging, supply of pure drinking waterand in the installation of road lights, other problems and over all development works of the Union Parishad.

Islamic University Journalist Association (IUJA) gets new executive committee. Mustafa Zubayer Alam of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha and Shahjahan Nobin of Dhakatimes24.com have been elected as the president and secretary of the new committee respectively. The election was held on Sunday in the annual general meeting at the university press corner. University Student Advisor Prof Anower Hossen conducted it as the chief election commissioner while Deputy Director of Information, Publicity and Public Relation Office M Golam Saklayen and IUJA former president Monirul Islam as the assistant commissioner.
Non-govt teachers in Jhenaidah demand 8th pay scale

Hundreds of non-government school teachers in Jhenaidah on Monday morning have demonstrated in the town demanding implementation of 8th national pay scale at an early date. Under the banner of Jhenaidah District non-government teachers association had also submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner. They will go for tougher movement if their demands were not fulfilled, they said. The teachers forming a human chain at District post office turning said, it was a legal and humanitarian demand of the teachers involved in ensuring education for the future generation. District non-government teachers’ association president Mahiuddin Ahmed, vice president Abdul Momin, joint secretary Ali Kadar and teacher Saleha Begum among others spoke during the human chain.
