Farmers happy with bumper potato production

Farmers in the Sylhet district are happy with the bumper production of potato and expect to exceed the production target.
They have started harvesting of potato that grew in plenty and healthy this year for good weather. The harvesting of the most consumed vegetable will continue till second week of the next month. A total of 3,37 hectares of land have been brought under the cultivation in 13-upazila of the district. Deputy Director of DAE Sylhet said potato becomes one of the cash crops to the farmers. They are very much interested to cultivate potato in their land because farmers can cultivate the crop at the middle time of Boro and Aman cultivatio
Passer-by killed in Fakirhat road mishap

A young man (28) met his tragic end when he was dashed violently by a speeding vehicle on Khulna-Mawa via Gopalganj Highway at Faltita under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat on Monday morning. The ill-fated passer-by was identified as Bashir Shaikh, son of one Abdur Razzak Shaikh of village Sreeghat under Bagerhat Sadar Upazila. It is learnt from the locals that in the morning while the deceased was crossing the Highway at Faltita was dashed by the killer vehicle from his behind and fled away. As a result, he sustained severe injuries and was thrown into a road side ditch. Consequently, he died instantly.
3-day flower fair begins in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A three-day flower fair-2016 began at Moni Bazar premises in the city yesterday aimed at meeting the gradually increasing demands of the flower-loving people. Rajshahi Boikali Sangha (RSS) and One Bank Limited jointly organized the fair. Different nursery owners of the city have set up more than 18 stalls that are displaying a wide range of blossoms. The fragrance of different types of roses, marigolds, gerberas, orchids, lilies, tulips, daffodils, petunias, sunflowers, morning glories, poppies, gardenia, gougainvillea, snapdragons, dahlia, nasturtium, begonia, evening primrose, clematis, knight queen, daisies, chrysanthemums, winter flowers, bleeding hearts, cosmos, hollyhock and many others wafting through the air has been attracting throngs of people to the fair. Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank Zinnatul Bakeya inaugurated the fair as chief guest. Managing Director of One Bank Limited Fakhrul Islam, RSS President Md Moniruzzaman and its General Secretary Roisuddin Babu were present on the occasion.
75 lakh meters current net seized in Munshiganj
MUNSHIGANJ: A mobile court here in a drive seized 75 lakh meters current net from a factory at Hatimara area under Sadar upazila of the district on Thursday. The mobile court, led by executive magistrate Asif Anam Siddiqui, conducted the raid in the “N A Industries” and seized 75 lakh meters current net and huge quantity of net producing yarn from the factory. It also arrested manager of the factory Zakir Hossain during the raid, mobile court sources said. The court also fined the factory Tk 10,000 for illegal production of current fishing nets, the sources added. Later, the seized current nets and yarns were burnt on the bank of Dhaleshwari River in presence of officials concerned, reports BSS.
Jessore Kotwali OC closed
BENAPOLE : The officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotwali Model Police Station, Shikdar Akkas Ali, was closed to the district police line on Thursday on various charges. Mir Shafin Mahmud, assistant superintendent of police, confirmed this saying OC Akkas Ali was closed following different allegations, including his laxity in curving deterioration of the town’s law and order. Connected, Ali Akkas said he was on leave for seven days, reports UNB.
