Biplobi Debendra Nath remembered

The 17th death-anniversary of Biplobi Debendra Nath Ghosh, the legendary socio-political personality of the region and fighter of anti-imperialism and human rights movement, observed in Barisal on Monday. ‘Biplobi Deben Ghosh Smriti Rokkha Committee (BDGSRC)’ organised a visit to his cemetery at Barisal Maha Shamshan Ghat morning and a discussion meeting at BNDN auditorium of the city at evening of the day on this occasion. Observing one minute silence for eternal blessings of the soul of the revolutionary leader, flower wrath was put on his cremation ground by the family members, followers of Deben Ghosh in morning.
BGB seizes Tk 107.10m illegal drugs in M’bazar

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel seized illegal drugs worth Tk107.10 million from different parts of Moulvibazar district in 2015. According to sources in the BGB 46 battalion, over 727 cases were filed in connection with incidents of drug smuggling during the period. Fourteen people were arrested while seven accused managed to flee. The drugs were seized in 145 kilometre bordering area between pillar no. 1838 of Muichhara in Kulaura Upazila of Moulvibazar and pillar no. 1947 of Habiganj district, according to a news agency report. Lt. Colonel Nasir Uddin of BGB 46 battalion said besides the narcotic substances, they recovered shotguns, alcohol, Indian Phensidyl syrup and Yaba tablets.
College girl commits suicide in Kachua

Fatema Aktar Jharna (22), a final year degree student of Kachua Degree College and daughter of one Mosharraf Hazra of village Tengrakhali under Kachua Upazila in Bagerhat district committed suicide by hanging herself with a ceiling fan in her bed room on Saturday at 2 pm. It is reported that the cause behind the suicide is the family quarrel.
Founding anniv of Kalerkantha celebrated
The 6th founding anniversary of the Bengali daily Kalerkantha was celebrated here in a befitting manner on Sunday. In this connection a cake cutting ceremony cum a discussion meeting was held in Bagerhat Press Club auditorium on the day in the morning with Adv. Md. Shah Alam Tuku, President of the club in the chair to mark the day. Just with the beginning of the function Bishnu Proshad Chkravarty, the local correspondent of the daily explained the aims, objects and mottos of the daily in his address of welcome. Al-haj Adv. Mir Shawkat Ali Badsha, founder president of the club and MP of Bagerhat Constituency-2 ceremonially cut the birth day cake as the chief guest.
It was followed with a discussion meeting which was addressed among others by the chief guest Adv. Mir Shawkat Ali Badsha, MP, Prof. ABM. Mosharraf Husain, Babul Sardar, Delwar Hossain, Ahsanul Karim, Kamrul Islam and M. Akbor Tutul.
