 20 injured in Bagehat road mishap

At least 20 passengers were injured when a passenger bus (Khulna Ba-906) bound for Khulna skidded off the road and plunged into a road side ditch on Bagerhat-Khulna Highway near at Barakpur Jubo Unyan Training centre under Bagerhat Sadar Upazila on It is learnt from the police and the passengers that the ill-fated bus was going from Bagerhat to Khulna and when it reached the place of occurrence it tried to over take a truck and met the accident. Seriously injured passengers were admitted to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for their treatment.
Ashwini Mela begins in Barisal

‘Ashwini Mela’ , a three-day long country-fair named on Mahatma Aswani Kumar Dutta, the renowned political leader of the undivided subcontinent, started at his native village Batajor on Ashwini Dutta School ground under Gournadi upazila of Barisal district from Thursday late afternoon. Harisur Rahman Haris, Gournadi municipal mayor, as chief guest inaugurated the fair with about one hundred stalls organized by the school authority at the evening. Poritosh Kumar Nandi, member of the school managing committee and fair organizing committee, presided over the inauguration ceremony with the slogan ‘Jiboner Ullashey Chalo Amrita Shadoney (with the delightment of life, let go to the eternal dwelling). Among others Asaduzzaman Ripon, president Gournadi Press Club Monir Hossain Mia, chairman Bangladesh Rural Development Board Gournadi unit, Abu Sayed Nantu, president Gournadi Girls School and College governing body, Jahirul Islam Jahir, Giasuddin Mia, journalists, Krishnakanta Haldar, headmaster of the school, Mukul Das, Debashis Chakraborty, Sunil Kumar Sangkha Banik, Abdul Hakim, Ganesh Chandra Mandal, cultural activists, Kabir Khan, Syed Mahbub Alam, Luthfar Rahman Dwip, political activists, addressed the inaugural session.
Thief lynched in Manikganj
MANIKGANJ:A suspected thief was killed in a lynch-mob attack at Dhulundi village in Ghior upazila early Friday. The deceased was identified as Mamun Hossain,26, son of Badsha Hossain of Tara Bandutia village of the upazila. Locals said when a Ranjit Achariya of the village raised a hue and cry sensing presence of thieves in his house local people rushed in. Chasing the thieves, the villagers caught one of them, Mamun, and gave him a good beating, leaving him crucially injured. He was first taken to Ghior upazila health complex and then shifted to Manikganj sadar hospital where doctors declared him dead. The body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy. Ghior thana officer-in-charge Shahidul Islam said two separate cases have been filed, reports UNB.
Farmer killed by lightning in Shariatpur
SHARIATPUR: A farmer was killed when a thunderbolt struck him at Binodpur Moulvikandi village in sadar upazila on Friday. The deceased was identified as Abul Kalam Sheikh, 45, son of late Abdul Kader Sheikh of the village. Police said lightning struck Abul Kalam when he was working in his land at about 7 am, leaving him dead on the spot, reports UNB.
