Robbers loot AL leader’s house in Sylhet

A gang of armed robbers looted gold ornaments and other valuables worth about Tk 15 lakh from the house of a local Awami League (AL) leader at Valki village in Dakshin Surma upazila on Friday night. Police and locals said a gang of robbers numbering 8 to 10 entered the house of AL leader Sujon Uddin Khan breaking open the door and tied its inmates. The gang looted seven tolas of gold ornaments, cash Tk 3 lakh and other valuables worth Tk 5 lakh. Being informed, ADC South Jadan al Musa and officer-in-charge of Dakshin Surma Police Station, visited the spot. A case was filed in this connection.
Bibidoil Girls’ School gets 100 pc pass rate in JSC
Students of Bibidoil Girls High School in the Dakshin Surma secured a 100% pass rate in junior school certificate (JSC) examinations held last year.A total of 59 students took part in the JSC examinations this year. Chairman of the school’s governing body, Abdul Wayahab Khan, congratulated and thanked the students, their guardians and the teachers for the accomplishment. Headmaster Saiful Islam Rana said he hopes to achieve better results in the future.

2 BNP, Krishak Dal men held over sabotage plan in Pirojpur
PIROJPUR: Police arrested a local leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and an activist of Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal from a party office on the bank of the Baleshwar River in Sadar upazila on Monday night over sabotage plan. The arrested were identified as Saidul Islam Kismat, organising secretary of the district unit BNP, and Jamal Sheikh, an activist of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal local unit. Officer-in-charge of Sadar police station Enaetur Hossain said police arrested them on suspicion of planning to carry out subversive activities ahead of January 5, reports UNB.
Pedestrian killed in Sunamganj road accident
SUNAMGANJ: A pedestrian was killed as he was crushed under the wheels of a speeding truck on Sylhet-Sunamganj road at Ujanigaon in Dakkin Sunamganj upazila of the district on Monday evening. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Jewel Mia, 35, son of late Abdul Majid, a resident of Hasnabaj village of the upazila. Police and locals said the accident took place when a Sunamganj-bound truck, fully loaded with goods, from Sylhet hit Jewel while he was crossing the road in the area, leaving him critically injured. Later locals whisked him off to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead. Sub-inspector of Sunamganj police station Rimon Khan said police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. Police also arrested the truck driver and seized the truck, the SI added, reprots UNB.
