Road blocked demanding speed breaker

Agitated local people blocked Barisal-Jhalakathi road at Rayapur of Barisal city skirt demanding immediate construction of speed breakers. Students, guardians of Rayapur government primary school and Abdul Latif Secondary School, and local people participated in the programme. The agitated people blocked the road by putting school benches and furniture and held rally.Among others Abdus Sobhan, Rashid Mia, Nirmal Sarkar, Rebeka Sultana addressing the rally alleged at least one school girl killed and many others injured recently as bus, motorbikes , three wheelers and other vehicles cross this point with over speed ignoring the cautionary traffic sign of ‘school ahead’ So they demanded immediate construction of speed breakers at this point to prevent accidents. More than hundred vehicles jammed on both ways of the road and after one hour police rushed to the spot with the help of local elites controlling the situation resumed traffic.
Attack on Mohona TV correspondent protested

Journalists of Chapainawabganj formed a human chain in front of the deputy commissioner’s office on Sunday in protest against the attack on Chapainawabganj district correspondent of Mohona Television Tareq Rahman.During the human chain, president of Chapainawabganj Press Club Golam Mostofa Montu, secretary of the same Kamal Uddin, secretary of Chapainawabganj Zila Press Club Dablu Kumar Ghosh and Chapainawabganj district correspondent of Mohona Television Tareq Rahman spoke. This is to be mentioned that miscreants made attack on Tareq, assaulted him and snatched away his camera on March 15 while he was performing his professional duty during upazila election at Raninagar Parchowka Government Primary School centre under Monakasha union of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district. Tareq filed a case with Shibganj thana on March 18.
Painting contest in Sylhet against forced marriage

Children in Sylhet on Saturday painted pictures in a competition to sensitise people to forced marriages and to raise awareness about it. Deputy British High Commissioner Nick Low hosted the painting competition at the district council auditorium in Sylhet and awarded prizes for the best pictures. Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Choudhury attended the function as the chief guest, according to a British High Commission press release. The British High Commission’s initiative is aimed at raising awareness against forced marriage among communities with strong links to the UK, and encouraging them to take action.

The activities of Post Flood Rehabilitation Project of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society formally ends with workshop in Kurigram on Sunday.The ending ceremony was held at Kurigram Tere Des Homes (TDH) Foundation Hall Room where Adv Enamul Haque Choudhury presided.
