India, Russia eye nuclear, military deals

India’s prime minister is expected to promote deals for Russian nuclear reactors and military helicopters worth billions of dollars on a trip to Moscow next week, attracted by promises to transfer technology that Western nations have been slow to make.
Russia and India will manufacture 200 Kamov-226T helicopters in a joint venture, a Russian and an Indian government official said, in the first big step for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign to build a domestic industrial base and reduce the military’s dependence on expensive imports.

Iran to export enriched uranium to Russia

Iran will export around nine tonnes of enriched uranium to Russia in the coming days, Tehran’s nuclear chief was quoted as saying on Saturday, as the country implements curbs to its nuclear program to secure sanctions relief.
“In the next few days around nine tonnes of Iran’s enriched uranium will be exported to Russia,” state news agency IRNA quoted Ali Akbar Salehi as saying.

AU to send 5,000-strong force to Burundi

The African Union will send a 5,000 strong force to stop violence in troubled Burundi, giving Bujumbura a four-day deadline to agree but warning it would send troops anyway.
The AU force “shall have an initial strength of up to 5,000 military personnel and police,” the AU’s Peace and Security Council (PSC) said in a statement late Friday.

Yemen clashes leave truce in tatters

Yemen’s ceasefire appeared to have collapsed as government forces seized two towns from rebels and their Saudi-led Arab coalition allies accused insurgents of escalating the conflict by firing ballistic missiles.
US President Barack Obama said there was an “urgent need for all parties to adhere to the ceasefire” after both sides repeatedly violated a truce aimed at helping parallel UN-sponsored peace talks that opened in Switzerland on Tuesday.
