One killed in Jhenaidah road mishap

A man was killed as a bus knocked down the bicycle he was riding at Ahsannagar village on Jhenaidah-Kushtia highway under Sailkupa upazila on Wednesday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Toajuddin Mandal, 65, son of late Golap Mandal of Tripurakandi village under the same upazila. Witnesses said, a Kushtia bound speeding bus of Gorai Paribahan hit the Toazuddin from the back leaving him seriously injured. Local people rushed him to Sailkupa upazila health complex in a critical state, where the attending physician declared him dead. Additional superintendent of police in Jhenaidah Ajbahar Ali SEikh said a case was filed with local police in this connection and the body was sent to Jhenaidah Sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy. The bus managed to flee from the spot, the police said.
One arrested with bombs,bullet
The police in Kotchnadpur arrested Abdul Alim, 37, son of Abdul Khaleq of Gobindapur village under Kotchandpur and recovered three crude bombs and six rounds of bullets from his possession on Wednesday evening. Kothcnapdur police officer in charge Ahmed Kabir Chowdhury said, acting on a tip off, contingent of police raided the village at about 5:30 pm. The police arrested a murder case accused Alim and recovered bombs and ammunitions from his bag kept with him. A case was filed with local police in this connection, the police said.
Robbers loot engineer’s house in Sylhet

Armed robbers looted valuables worth Tk 3 lakh from a Engineer’s house in Haldarpara area in Sylhet city Wednesday night. The gang of around 10/12 robbers entered the house breaking open the back door and took the house members hostage at gunpoint and Looted Cash 70 Thousand Taka, 2 Gold Ornaments 2 Laptop, 2 Mobile Phone and other valuables worth Tk 3 lakh from the houses. said the house owner Engineer Somorendro das Talukder. he added. Jalalabad Poilce Station OC Shamol Dotto Visited the Spot. A case was filed.
Sexagenarian woman found dead
A Sexagenerian woman was found dead at Meruakhali village under Biswambhapur upazila in Sunamganj. The deceased is Laljan Bibi, 60, wife of late Imam Hossain of Meruakhali village. Biswambhapur OC Muhammad Shahidur Rahman said: “On information from the locals, we recovered the body and sent it to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital on Wednesday morning.” Dhonpur Union Chairman Rafiqul Islam Talukdar said: “This incident might have taken place over previous enmity.”
Anniv of Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord observed

Ruling Awami League and its front organisations on Wednesday holding procession and rally in the city observed 18th anniversary of Chittagong Hill Tract Accord. The rally was held at BCC crossing creating severe traffic jam in busy office hours on city main roads. It was presided over by Talukdar Md. Yunus, District AL secretary and lawmaker and addressed by city, upazila, district leaders of AL, JL, BCL and other front organisations. Speakers of the rally claimed that Barisal district AL president Abul Hasanat Abdullah playing vital role in signing that accord restored peace in the turbulent hill tract areas. Hasanat recognized the basic rights of the both settlers and ethnic people under ‘one country, one nation’ theme to strengthen sovereignty of the state, the speakers said. Fundamental issues like security and sovereignty of the united Bangladesh under the Bengali nationalism and constitution of the country was given first preference in all steps, they told.
