One killed, 8 hurt in bus worerks-passengers clash

One person was killed and eight injured in clash between transport workers and picnic-bus passengers over boarding on ferry on Barisal-Kuakata highway Friday early morning. The dead victim was identified as Jasimuddin Haoladar, 30, a helper of Shakura Paribahon and son of Sekandar Haoladar from Boikathi village under Ujirpur upazila of Barisal. Abu Zafar Khan, Patuakhali counter in charge of Shakura Paribahon, said staffs of regular passenger carrying Sugandha Paribahon of Dhaka-Kuakata route and picnic party reserved bus of N K travels going from Jessore to Kuakata engaged in altercation over serial of boarding on ferry at Vorpasha-Lebukhali ferry crossing on Barisal-Patuakhali route. The feuds rapidly spread among the transport workers and passengers of other vehicles including Shakura Paribahon also at about 4:30 am. At that time Jasim, helper of Sakura Paribahon, stabbed and declared as dead after brought to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital at about 8:00 am on Friday, the counter in charge told. This type of clash over serial of boarding ferry became regular phenomenon in this river crossing as rush of Patuakhali , Kuakata bound night coaches became beyond tackle by giving service with single ferry, he added. More 8 people including staffs and passengers were injured and Ebaidul, 35, helper of Sugandha Paribahon, admitted at Barisal SBMCH in critical condition and others released after giving first aid, SBMCH sources said. Police rushed to the spot controlling the situation detained 20 passengers and staffs of the N K Travels picnic bus ( Jessore-Ba-147), said Sub Inspector Gazi Nazrul Islam of Bakerganj police station of Barisal.
Khulna KL leader hurt in poll violence, dies
KHULNA: A local Krishak League leader, who sustained bullet injuries during polls violence in Rupsha Upazila on Saturday, died in a hospital in the capital on Friday. The deceased was identified as Selim Patwari, vice-president of Rupsha upazila unit Krishak League. Police said 11 people, including Selim, were injured in violence at Rupsha Samantasena Siddiqia polling centre during upazila elections on Saturday. Selim was first admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital and later shifted to a hospital in Dhaka as his condition deteriorated. He succumbed to his injures at the hospital early Friday, reports UNB.
30 hurt in BCL-Shibir clash in Comilla
COMILLA: At least 30 people were injured in a clash between the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Islami Chhatra Shibir at Natherpetua in Monohorganj upazila on Thursday. Local sources said activists of the upzila unit BCL caught Anwar Hossain, finance secretary of the Monoharganj unit (East) of Shibir, and informed police after confining him to a room of Natherpetua Fazil Madrasa in the morning. Following the incident, a clash broke out between the activists of local BCL and Shibir when about 100 activists of Shibir went to the spot to snatch away their leader. At one stage, both the groups attacked each other, leaving 30 people injured. Jakir Hossain, an Awami League-backed candidate of Monohorganj Upazila election, was among the injured. The Chhatra League activists also set fire to a library of Shibir-run Islami Social Welfare Parishad during the clash. Mohamamd Harun-or-Rashid, officer-in-charge of Monohorganj Police Station, said some jihadi (religion uprising) books, one crude bomb and some joint pieces of pipe were recovered from the Shibir office. Police arrested two people in this connection, reports UNB.
JCD leader held with drugs in Sirajganj
SIRAJGANJ :A local leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) was arrested along with heroin and Yaba tablets on the Ullapara Science College premises in Ullapara upazila on Thursday. The arrested was identified as Firoz Mahmud, 25, convener of the municipality unit of the student wing of BNP. Being tipped off, a team of police conducted a raid in the area and arrested Masud at noon and recovered 80 packs of heroin and 12 pieces of Yaba tablet from his possession. Tajul Huda, officer-in-charge of Ullapra Police Station, confirmed the incident, reports UNB.
Boy killed by lightning in Moulvibazar
MOULVIBAZAR: A teenage boy was killed as a lightning strike hit him at Digholkandi village in Kulaura upazila on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Enam Ahmed, 16, a student of class X of Haidarganj High School and son of Manirul Islam of the village. Local sources said Enam died on the spot when a thunderbolt struck him just at the moment he stepped outside the house at about 10:00 am, reports UNB.
