Tech Fair begins at SUST

A two-day technology fair titled ‘IPvision CSE Carnival 2015’ was started on Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) campus on Friday morning.Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department of the university arranged the function for the 5th time at MA Wazed Miah ICT Building.Former Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Saleh Uddin along with writer Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal inaugurated at around 10:00am and visited the fair. A total of 145 teams from 46 universities are enlisted for the programming contest while 22 teams from 12 universities for the software contest.
Schoolgirl commits suicide
A schoolgirl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room at Jayfarpur village in Osmaninagar upazila on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Jaheda Begum, 13, daughter of Abdus Sobhan of the village and a class VII student of Gowalabazar High School of the area. Sub-inspector of Osmaninagar police station Anuj Kanti Das said being informed by family members, police recovered the hanging body of Jaheda from her room around 1.30pm.

Law enforcers arrested a war crimes accused from Moulvibazar on Tuesday, hours after the International Crimes Tribunal-1 issued arrest warrants for four men for their alleged involvement in crimes committed in the district during the Liberation War in 1971. The arrestees are : Akmol Hosain, 70, a resident of Pachgaon village in Rajnagor Upazila of Moulvibazar District. He was former vice-principal of Moulvibazar town Kamil Madrasa. Md. Shahjalal, superintendent of police in Moulvibazar confirmed the matter to The New Nation. He said, they arrested Hosain at his village home of Pachgaon village in Rajnagor Upazila of Moulvibazar District. International Crimes Tribunal-1 in Dhaka on Tuesday issued arrest warrants against 10 war crimes suspects of Gaibandha and Moulvibazar for their alleged crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
Madrasah student drowns in Jessore pond

A madrasah student drowned in a pond at Jhumjhumpur in Jessore town on Sunday morning. The deceased was identified as Sonny Rahman,10, a class V student of a local madrasah and son of Mosharraf Hossain, a resident of the area. Witnesses said Sonny went to the pond to take a bath in the morning. Suddenly, he slipped into its water and drowned. Family members rescued Sonny and took him to Jessore Medical College Hospital where attending doctors declared him dead.
Youth held with 1,400 Yaba tablets in Netrakona

Detectives arrested a young man along with 1,400 pieces of Yaba tablet from KDC area in the district town on Saturday night. The arrestee was identified as Ariful Islam,24, son of Nurul Islam of Dakkin Para village in Madan upazila. AKM Kowsar Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch (DB) of police, said tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a raid on the house of one Humayun Kabir in the area and arrested Ariful at night. The law enforcers also recovered 1,400 pieces of Yaba tablet from his possession. A case was filed with Netrakona Model Police Station in this connection.
