New daily newspaper inaugurated in Chuadanga

A local newspaper named daily Samayer Somikaran was inaugurated at Police Park lane of Chuadanga with the slogan” Satatai Amader Sakti” on Sunday. Superintendent of Police inaugurated the newspaper at Chuadanga Rashidul Hasan at its head office as Chief Guest in absence of local M P Whip Solaiman Haque Joarder, Reazur Rahaman, Mayor of Chuadanga Municipaility presided over the opening function. The newspaper was published from Monday.

Freedom fighters Abdus Salam have been made the president of Jessore district unit Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) while Syed Biplob Azad as general secretary and Jahirul Habib as joint secretary, newly made president confirmed. Abdus Salam told that ASM Abdur Rab, president of the party on announced the name of the Jessore unit leaders on Saturday night in its biannual conference.
Seminar on technical education held in Sylhet

Speakers at a seminar in Sylhet city said on Tuesday for ensuring the country’s economic development, we should provide quality and technical education aiming at meeting the just demand of the industrial sector. Additional Commissioner of the Sylhet division Md. Al-Amin attended the event styled ‘importance of technical education for economic development’ as chief guest while Professor Dr. Zahir Bin Alam of the Shahjalal university of Science & Technology (SUST) addressed as resource person. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Director, Curriculum, Bangladesh Technical Education Board spoke as special guest while Principal Sylhet Polytechnic Institute Engineer Md. Abdul Halim chaired. Over a hundred teachers of different technical education institutes, industrialists, entrepreneurs, leading businessmen, academics and others from the division joined the event held at the Sylhet Polytechnic Institute.
30 hurt in clash over possession of water body
Thirty people, including 11 policemen, were injured in a clash over taking possession of a water body ‘forcibly’ at Thubri Shilchand in Gowainghat upazila of the district on Thursday. Witnesses said a group of local influential people, led by one Abdul Monaf, had long been trying to take the possession of the government-owned water body, which is now in use of Manaura Probhati Motshajibi Samabay Samiti Ltd on lease. Following application of the lease holder, a team of police, on instruction of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Salah Uddin, conducted a drive in the area at 12pm to hunt down the alleged grabbers.
Jamaat leader held in Chapainawabganj

Police in a drive arrested a local leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami from Naderabad village under Alinagar union of Gomastapur upazila on Thursday. The arrestee was identified as Tajer Hossain, 60, upazila unit Jamaat ameer and vice chairman of Gomastapur upazila parisad. Officer-in-charge of Gomastapur police station Golam Mortuja said tipped off, a team of police conducted a raid on Tajer Hossain’s house and arrested him. He was wanted by police in seven cases filed for subversive activities, added the OC.
