Saloon owner killed in Narayanganj
NARAYANGANJ: A saloon owner was murdered allegedly by some miscreants in Isdaer area under Fatullah upazila of the district last night. The deceased was identified as Abul Kasem, 42, son of Mahiuddin, a resident of Uttar Gabtoli area under the upazila. Quoting family members, police said the miscreants might have beaten and strangulated him to death and dumped the body near Osmani Stadium of the area. Being informed by locals, police recovered the body this morning and sent it to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue, said officer-in-charge of Fatullah Thana Asaduzzaman, reports BSS.
Two held with 18-kg ganja in Habiganj

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two drug traffickers with 18-kg ganja from Mantala Railway Station under Madhabpur upazila of the district last night. The arrested were identified as Nazmul Haque, a resident of Chandpur village under Bijoynagar upazila in Brahmanbaria district and Abul Kalam, a resident in Bailapur area of Savar upazila. On a tip-off, a team of the elite force (RAB9) conducted a drive in the area and arrested them with the ganja, RAB sources added.
512,400 meters current net seized

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard in a drive seized 512,400 meters banned current net from a passengers launch in the Meghna river at Chandpur launch Ghat here on Friday. Station Commander of Chandpur Coast Guard Lieutenant Mohammad Nuruzzaman Sheikh said a team of the Coastguard conducted the drive on the basis of secret information at Barisal-bound launch “M V Karnaphulli-3” from Dhaka and found the contraband current nets inside the water vessel. The staff of the launch fled from the scene sensing the presence of the Coastguard members. However, nobody was arrested in this connection, the sources said. Later, the seized current nets were burnt at the bank of the Dakatia river in presence of district fisheries officers.
2 Jamaatmen held with 10 hand bombs

Police in a drive arrested a leader and an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami and recovered 10 bombs from near Sonatunia Dakhil Madrasah in Rampal upazila on Friday night. The arrestees were identified as Rampal upazila unit Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Julfiker Ali,43, and a Jamaat activist Mostafizur Rahman,40. Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Rampal Police Station, said acting on secret information that a group of Jamaat-e-Islami men were holding a clandestine meeting for sabotage plan in the area, a team of police conducted a drive there and arrested the two Jamaat men around 9pm. Police also recovered 10 hand bombs from the spot.
Elderly man crushed under train in Comilla
COMILLA: An elderly man was crushed under the wheels of a train at Shashidal in Brahmanpara upazila on Thursday morning. The deceased was identified as Abul Hashem,65, a resident of Jugirkandi village in Chauddagram upazila. Shashidal railway stationmaster Majibur Rahman said the accident took place at about 8:45am when a Dhaka-bound train hit the man from behind at the station, leaving him dead on the spot. Later, railway police recovered the body and sent it to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, reports UNB.
