6 jailed for unfairmeans in Nagarkanda

A mobile court fined and jailed six persons for supplying copies to JSC (junior school certificate) examinees in Nagarkanda upazila in the district. Nagarkanda Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Abdul Aziz conducted the court on Wednesday . The court sentenced six weeks non-rigiroous jail and one thousand taka fine to Maruf Hossen of Dohisara village and Tariqul Islam of Chandhat village each. The court sentenced four weeks jail and five hundred taka fine to Palash Chandra Biswas, office assistant of Brammandanga High School, Rafiqul Islam of Moshaujan village and Milon Hossen of Jogdia Moholla under Nagarkanda Pourashava each.
Fire Service Week observed in Narsingdi
NARSINGDI: A discussion meeting in observance of Fire Service and Civil Defence week 2015 was held at Narsingdi Government College ground on Thursday. Deputy Commissioner of Narsingdi Abu Hena Morshed Zaman addressed the discussion as chief guest with Principal of Narsingdi Government College Mohammad Shirajul Islam in the chair. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Suriaya Begum addressed the discussion as special guest. Assistant Deputy Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Narsingdi Mijanur Rahman delivered the welcome speech. The Deputy Commissioner in his speech said the members of the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence are the heroic son of the country, reports BSS.
One held with fake US currency notes in B’baria
Brahmanbaria: Police arrested a man along with 10 counterfeit US currency notes-each of 100 dollar denomination-from a local market in Banchharampur upazila on Thursday night. The arrestee was identified as Nasir Uddin, 33, son of Moslem Uddin, hailing from Sutrapur area in Dhaka. Angshu Kumar Deb, officer-in-charge of Banchharampur Police Station, said suspecting movement of Nasir, local people caught him while he tried to buy cigarettes with a $100 dollar note from a grocery shop around 7:30 pm. Later local people found nine more fake US currency notes, each of $100 denomination, from his possession and informed police. Meanwhile, police arrested him and took him to the police station, reports UNB.
8 shops gutted, 10 injured in Gopalganj fire
GOPALGANJ: At least 8 shops were gutted and 10 persons injured in a devastating fire at Ghagar Bazaar under Kotalipara upazila on Thursday. The fire originated from a bedding store of one Joynal Miah of the market and quickly engulfed adjacent business establishments eyewitnesses said.
Ten persons were also injured during the fire. Of the injured 6 were released after first aid. Four injured persons were admitted to Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex for treatment, the fire service sources said. Being informed, three fire service units from Gopalganj, Kotalipara and Tungipara extinguished the fire after a frantic effort of more than one hour with the help of locals, fire service sources said, reports BSS.
Dacoity committed in Munshiganj
MUNSHIGANJ: A daring dacoity was committed in five houses in Monipara, Kamargaon and Nayabari area under Srinagar upazila of the district on Wednesday night. Dacoits looted gold ornaments, cash money and other valuables from five houses. Five persons were injured by the chopping of dacoits. Among the five injured persons, Babul 36, was admitted to Dhaka City Hospital and others were admitted to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex. Local people said about 35 to 40 armed dacoits opened fire and created panic among the resident. At one stage they entered the houses of Babul 36, Sharat 34, Balai 60, Sonai 28 and Gobindu 55 breaking the doors open and looted valuables including gold ornaments and cash taka from those houses, reports BSS.
