Driver killed in road accident in Kurigram

One driver was killed in a road accident at Nageswari upazila in Kurigram district at noon on Friday.Eyewitnesses said a running truck dashed a three wheeler from behind at Bhitorband area under Nageswari upazila on Bhurungamari-Nageswari Highway. The three wheeler driver was injured seriously who was immediately taken to Kurigram Sadar Hospital in a critical condition but he died on the way.The deceased was identified as Azizul Haque 24 son of Saber Ali of village Bhabanipur under Bhitorband union under the upazila.Officer Incharge of Nageswari police station Bazlur Rashid admitted the incident and told that the driver along with the killer track managed the escape.
Repair of road demanded in Barisal

Local residents blocked two-kilometer long road from Amanatganj Panir Tank to Mahabaj Shafi Miar Pol in the city demanding repair of the roads on Thursday morning. Ebaidul Huq, one of the residents of the area, told the road remained under repair since city corporation election of June 15, 2014 causing suffering of the commuters, accidents of the vehicles. Participants of the movement holding sit-in rally and cutting roads at different points cautioned that if steps for completing of the repairing work would not the started within next four working days, then will start more tough movement. Mainul Huq and Yunus Mia, two ward councilors of the area said they will talk with the BCC Mayor about the public demands.
Urs Mahfil held at Arkum Shah Dorbar Sharif

The 72th urs of Hazrat Maulana Shah Sufi Arkum Shah (R.), of Arkum Shah Dorbar Sharif Khankah, Arkum Nogor in Dakshin Surma was held on Wednesday.Quran khwani after the asr prayers, followed by salatul ajker, fateha khani, zekir, milad mahfil and discussion the life of the spiritual leader Hazrat Shah Sufi Arkum Shah (R.), were held on this occasion, according to a press release.A large number of followers from across the country joined the programmes to hear discussion on the historical role of the sufi saints in promotiong Islam in the country.Md Muhib Ali conducted the milad mahfil and addressed the religious ceremony.The incumbent spiritual leader of the Darbar Shariff Malik Hossain Izzad led the concluding prayers seeking divine blessings for the peace, prosperity, progress of Bangladesh and for the greater unity amongst the Muslim Ummah and for the global freedom of the oppressed Muslims in different parts of the world. Weekly Bangla News Director Abdur Rob Mollik, Alhaz Shekh Mokon Miah chairman, Habib Hossain chairman, Banker Goznofor Ali, Md. Khosruzzaman, Kuti Miah, Manik Mia, Khadim Jalal Ahmed also spoke in the discussion.
BGB seizes liquor, air-gun bullets
The Border Guard Bangladesh seized 659 bottles of smuggled liquor and 25,000 air-gun bullets worth about Tk 7.35 lakh in two drives at Companiganj and Goainghat borders in Sylhet on early Tuesday and Monday night. A team of BGB conducted a drive at Kalarai stone quarry at Companiganj border around 4:00am on Tuesday and seized 659 bottles of liquor. In another drive conducted by the BGB Sonarhat camp, the border guard personnel seized 25,000 abandoned air-gun bullets. The seized liquor and air gun bullets were deposited to the local narcotics control office
2 held with arms, ammo in Jhenidah
JHENIDAH: Police arrested two alleged terrorists along with a gun and a number of bullets and bombs from Gilabaria village in Sadar upazila on Friday evening. The arrested were Bishawjit Kumar, 24, son of Nitya Gopal, and Sazzatur Rahman, 23, son of Ajmat Ali of Kacharitola village in Harinakunda upazila. Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury said a patrol team of police recovered the arms, bullets and bombs after searching the bodies of Bishawjit and Sazzatur at 6.30pm and arrested them. Police also seized their motorcycle. Police said that the arrestees were preparing to commit crimes. A case was filed with Sadar Police Station, reports UNB.
