Drug trader held with Yaba in Chapainawabganj

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 of Chapainawabganj camp arrested an alleged drug trader and seized 400 pieces of yaba tablet from him at Sarengpur village under Godagari upazila in Rajshahi district yesterday evening. The arrested person has been identified as Md. Jewel Rana, 22, son of Md. Rafiqul Islam of the aforesaid area. RAB said, acting on a tip off, an operation team of RAB from Chapainawabganj camp raided the area at around 5-40 pm and arrested him with 400 yaba tablets worth Tk. 1,20,000 from a road side area. Later he was handed over to the concerned police station with a case.
8 injured in factional clash of AL in Barisal

At least eight activists were injured in factional clash of ruling Awami League(AL)over nomination of party candidate in local government election on Saturday noon at Bakerganj municipal town of Barisal district. Witnesses said the clash was happened between the followers of Parvin Talukdar, former lawmaker and district AL leader and followers of Lokman Hossain Dakua, Bakerganj municipal mayor and upazila AL secretary. Many followers went to visit and welcome Parvin Talukdar on Saturday morning at upazila duck-bungalow long days after she returned to native area and talked about upcoming local government election. This created tension among the followers of Lokman Dakua who propagated that dedicated workers of the party, not the ‘cuckoos of spring’, should get preferences in selection and nomination of party candidates in local government election. Over this issue follower of both groups engaged in altercation and chasing, counter-chasing and clash with brick bats, lethal weapons, witnesses said.
Sylhet Agri Varsity gets land for outer campus

The government has allotted a plot of 12.29 acres of land at the city suburban Khadimnagar area for setting the outer campus of the Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU). The official documents of the land was handed over to the SAU’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Golam Shahi Alam on the 9th founding anniversary of the institution on Monday by the additional Land Acquisition officer. Besides, Under a development programme worth Tk 446 million for the new campus, land development and construction of an academic building would cost about Tk 83.6 million, veterinary shed construction at a cost of Tk 2 million, academic laboratory animal shed for Tk 7.1 million, dairy shed for Tk 19.5 million, semi pucca broiler shed for Tk 4 million, Semi pucca layer shed construction for Tk 4 million, semi-pucca shed for ducks for Tk 4 million, construction of green wall for Tk 150 million, construction of a sub station and link road at a cost of Tk 1.7 million, road construction for Tk 6.8 million, setting 2 deep tubewells for Tk 1.4 million and supply of sub station equipment for Tk 7.9 million. Sylhet Veterinary College was upgraded as the SAU in 2006 on an area of 50 acres of land at the city suburban Alurtol area, close to the Sylhet Engineering College. The students had been suffering for want of adequate lands for their farm research activities. The new site for outer campus would reduce the trouble, campus officials informed.

Police in a drive arrested a local leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami from Jakiganj upazila under Sylhet district on Saturday afternoon. The arrested was identified as Golam Rabbani Jabed, Vice-Chairman of Jakiganj Upazila Parishad and General Secretary of Jakiganj upazila unit Jamaat.
Dacoit killed in Joypurhat
JOYPURHAT : An alleged dacoit was killed in a mass beating at Pathuria village under Sadar upazila early yesterday morning. The victim was identified as Anwar Hossain, 45, son of Bahar Uddin, a resident of Vagobanpur village of the upazila.Police said Anwar along with his accomplices entered the house of one Ashraful of the village for committing dacoity at about 2.30am.Hearing screaming of the inmates, the villagers rushed to the spot and caught Anwar red handed while others managed to flee away. Anwar was beaten by the villagers.On information, police rushed to the spot and sent Anwar to Zila hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead, reports BSS.
