 Bangabandhu Smriti Monument opens in Boalmari

 The newly- built Bangabandhu Independent Smriti Monument was inaugurated at Chowrasta under Boalmari municipality in the district. Md. Abdur Rahman MP inaugurated it on October 27 as Chief guest. Boalmari Pourasava Unit Awami League President Abdul Alim Mollah presided over the ceremony. Boalmari Upazila AL President and Upazila Chairman MM Mosharrof Hossain was the special guest. Boalmari Upazila AL General Secretary Shajahan Mirdah Pikul, Organising Secretary and upazila Parishod Vice Chairman Md. Mizanur Rahman Mirdha Milon were present among others. The estimated cost of the work was Tk 50 lakh and it was built the by Local Government Engineering Department (LGED).

Press worker killed in Jessore

A worker of a printing press at Jhumjhumpur under Jessore Sadar Upazila was killed on Monday night. The police picked up a youth in this connection. The dead was identified as Shahidul Islam, 30, machine- man of Unique Printing Press at Jhumjhumpur and also son of Sekendar Ali of Panchbaria of the upazila. Employees of the press told newsmen that Shahidul died at Jessore Medical College Hospital at around 12 midnight after being admitted there at around 10pm on Monday. He was stabbed by Ashraful, assistant to the victim over sudden feud at around 9pm. Abu Syed, brother of the dead alleged that his brother died in the hospital as he had admitted there hiding the fact by Mostafizur Rahman, manager of the press. Shikder Akkas Ali, Officer- In-Charge, Kotwali police station told newsmen that the police picked up Ashraful, the lonely accused in this connection.

2 UEPZ workers killed in Nilphamari road crash

Two women UEPZ workers were killed and 2 others injured when track plunged at Nilphamari-Saiedpur highway of in Nilphamari Sadar at 7:30pm on Tuesday . Locals identify Nasima Begum (26) and Keya Akter Fatema(17). Shahjahan Pasa, officer-in-charge of Nilphamari police station, said the accident took place around 7:30am when a track plunged into a roadside ditch as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving two people killed on the spot and 2 others injured. Of the injured, were rushed to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.

Headmaster held for ‘harassing third-grader’ in Jhalakati

Jhalakati, Police arrested the headmaster of a primary school for allegedly harassing a minor girl sexually at Nagpara in Jhalakati Sadar upazila on Tuesday afternoon. The arrestee was identified as Nurul Amin, 45, headmaster of Nagpara Government Primary School and a resident of Old Kalabagan area in the town. Victim’s father filed a case with Sadar Police Station in connection with the incident. According to the case statement, Nurul harassed the third grader sexually on Monday. However, the student informed her family members about the matter. Later, on Tuesday afternoon, when Nurul came to the school, family members of the victim along with local people caught him and handed him over to police, reports UNB.
