3-day Kheturdham festival begins in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A three-day long historic Kheturdham festival (Khetur Mohotsav) began at Premtali Gourangabari under Godagari Upazila of the district amidst assemblage of thousands of devotees from home and abroad. The historical Mohotsav which is one of the largest religious congregations for the followers of Baishnava (Hindu) religion in the Indian Sub-continent is held at Khetur and at Gourangabari of Premtali under Godagari every year to mark the death anniversary of Shree Shree Thakur Narottam Das. Local MP Omor Faruque Chowdhury opened the grand festival yesterday afternoon as chief guest saying that Bangladesh is an instance of communal harmony as people of all the religions have been celebrating their respective religious and cultural festivals freely for long. He observed that the present government is very positive and cautious to uphold the dignity. As a result, the country is now being widely adjudged as a unique example of communal harmony as people of all religions live with equal rights alongside peace and tranquility. Faruque Chowdhury also sought co-operation from all to keep the historical Mela free from all malpractices and alien culture.With Prof Dr Modon Mohan Dey, President of Gourangabari Trust, in thechair, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Khalid Hossain, Vice President of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Committee Anil Kumar Sarker and General Secretary of the trust Shyamapada Sanyal also spoke, reports BSS.
5 Jamaat-Shibir men held in Kushtia

Police arrested five leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir from different areas in the district town on Sunday night. District unit Jamaat’s senior nayeb ameer Prof Farhad Hussain and former chairman of Sadar upazila and Jamaat leader Mosharraf Hossain are among the arrestees.Additional superintendent of police Abu Bakkar Siddique said on a tip-off, a team of Kushtia Model Police Station conducted separate drives at the houses of Farhad Hussain and Mosharraf Hossain and arrested them at night. At the same time, a team of Khoksa Police Station arrested Khoksa municipality unit Jamaat president and Abdur Razzak, who is also a councilor of the municipality. Besides, the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a Shibir activist, identified as Sujon, from Jagati area. A team of Daulotpur Police Station arrested Akkas Ali, a Jamaat activist.
Golf tournament begins in Rangpur

The three-day long 5th Shah Cement AKS Cup Golf tournament has begun at Rangpur Golf ground on Saturday. President of Rangpur Golf club, Rangpur Area Commander and General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 66 Infantry Division Major General MD. Masud Razzaque ndc, afwc, psc formally inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest while Executive director of Abul Khair Group Brigadier General (Rtd) Shahidullah Chawdhury was present as special guest. The tournament has been organised under the auspices of Abul Khair Steel (AKS) and Shah Cement two business units of Abul Khair Group. More than one hundred golfers from the country are taking part in the tournament.
6 BNP leaders refused bail, sent to jail

A court here on Sunday sent six leaders of BNP, including Jessore municipality mayor Maruful Islam, to jail after rejecting their bail petitions in a case for subversive activities. The BNP leaders are Jessore municipality mayor and the district unit BNP president Maruful Islam, its vice-president Rafiqur Rahman Totan, organizing secretary Delwar Hossain Khokan, joint-secretary Abdus Salam, member Aninda Islam Amit, who is also son of BNP standing committee member Tariqul Islam, and councilor of ward no. 5 councilor Azizul Kamal Sweet. Senior Judicial Magistrate Abu Ibrahim passed the order when the BNP leaders appeared before the court in the afternoon seeking bail in the case.
