Councillors elect UZ, town committee office-bearers
FARIDPUR: Awami League Councillors unanimously elected the presidents and secretaries of Sadar Upazila and Town committees for the next three years at the triennial conference held at Ambica memorial hall here yesterday afternoon.
Abdur Razzak Molla and Shamsul Alom Chowdhury were elected president and secretary respectively of Faridpur Sadar upazilla by the Councillors unanimously while Khondoker Nazmul Islam Levy and Sajjad Hossain Barkat were elected president and secretary respectively of the town committee of Awami League through unanimous decision of the Councillors, reports BSS.
2 bombs recovered in Meherpur
Meherpur: Police recovered two bombs from a bridge of Kasba-Bhatpara under Gangni upazila here yesterday. Being informed, a team of police raided the area and recovered the bombs in an abandoned condition, police sources said, reports BSS.
Forest robber held with arms in Sundarbans
SATKHIRA: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and Forest Department arrested a forest robber along with four firearms at Kalirkhal in Shyamnagar upazila in the Sundarbans on Thursday. The arrestee was identified as Farid Mollah, 20, of Shora village in the upazila. Tipped off, a joint team of forest department and Rab conducted a raid in the area and arrested Farid Mollah along with four firearms in the afternoon, said SM Shoyeb Khan, an assistant forest official of Ratkhira range. Farid was a member of infamous gang ‘Amir Bahini’, said Rab-6 commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Mahfuzul Haque, reports UNB.
Patient’s attendants assault 4 staff at SBMCH

Attendants of patient attacking nurses and staff on duty at Surgery Ward of Barisal Sher -e- Bangla Medical College Hospital on Wednesday afternoon injured four of them. The attackers also assaulted assistant registrar of the ward. Later, two of the attackers were detained by the hospital staff and later handed over to police. Kabir Hossain, SI of Barisal Kotwali police station, said Sohel Mridha, 18, son of Kanchan Mridha from Vitkhali of Mirzaganj upazila under Patuakhali district, admitted at the hospital with minor injuries on October 10. After improving his condition attending doctor on October 13 cutting name of the patient from admission register asked to release him. However, the patient did not left the hospital and so on October 14 when attending nurses, staffs and doctors asked Sohel to leave the hospital and ordered to admit another patient on that bed, attendants of patient becoming agitated attacked the hospital staffs at about 3:30 PM.
Women empowerment in agri sector stressed
Participants at a press-briefing and dialogue to observe International Day of Rural Women on Thursday stressed on recognition, evaluation about the role and empowerment of women in agricultural sector and enacting food right act. They also called for involvement of more women with training in agriculture sector to check flow of rural people to urban areas for the success of the new Sustainable Development agenda for 2030. The programme was organized by district ‘ Women Farmers Forum’ under assistances from GROW, OXFAM in Bangladesh and their local partner AVAS at Barisal Reporters Unity to observe UN declared ‘ World Rural Women’s Day’ on October 15 and GROW-week ( October 13-19). Maksuda Begum, Zayeda Begum, Nurjahan Begum, Munira Parvin Minu, leaders of district women farmers’ forum and journalists of different print and electronic media attended the programme. The journalists and female peasant leaders said about fifty percent of the total population in the country are females and more than seventy percent of the females, mostly rural, direct or indirectly involved with different types of agricultural farming.
