Urban Food Production Day observed in Rangpur

Urban Food Production Day was observed at Rangpur Pourashava organised by UPPR -Urban Partnerships for Poverty Reduction a project of UNDP financed by UK-aid implemented at Rangpur City Corporation . A grand rally moved around the Rangpur town beginning from Public library DC more and ends at beginning place leaded by Mayor Alhaj shorfodin ahamad ghontu Rangpur city corporation , Rangpur. 1500 of community leaders, members, chief executive, Rangpurcity corporation officials and other GOB and NGO representatives participated at rally. After rally a discussion and cultural programme held on this day. The community people demonstrated the urban food production model in 40 stalls at exhibition place.
Elderly woman killed in Jhenidah road crash

An elderly woman was killed in a road crashed near Boishaky oil pump area of Kaligonj upazila town in Jhenidah on Friday noon. The deceased was identified as Sahara Begum, 55 wife of late Haran Ali of Farashpur village under Kaligonj upazila in Jhenidah. Officer in charge (OC) Monir Uddin Mollah of Kaligonj police station said, on Friday morning at around 11:00 am Sahara was coming to Kaligonj upazila town for her treatment. When she was trying to cross the road near Boishaky oil pump area of the upazila town a speedy human huller hit her leaving serious injured. Instantly, locals rushed to Kaligonj local health complex where she succumbed to injures at around 2:00 pm.
College teacher killed in road accident

Md. Moamlemm Hossain Mondol (Dulal) killed in road accident at Bhurungamari Zero Point Road area in the district recently. He was a Lecturer of Management department of Motin Karigori Agriculture College of Ulipur. He was going to Bhurungamari upazila with his friend for an urgent business by his motor bike then he was faced an accident. While he was crossing a running truck, an extra wheel of truck fell on the head of the victim from the rooftop of the truck and he was died on the spot.
Two-day Patho Natya Utsav ends in Barisal

A two-day ‘Patho Natya Utsav’, street drama festival, ended on open air stage in front of Barisal Ashwini Kumar Hall on Wednesday night. The festival was organized by Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, Barisal unit in collaboration with Bangladesh Patha Natok Parishad. Eight drama teams of Barisal and Dhaka participated in the festival with the slogan ‘Culture Against Violence (Sahingshatar Biruddhey Sangskriti). Syed Dulal, presidium member BGTF, inaugurated the festival on Tuesday evening. Kajal Ghosh, divisional organizing secretary BGTF, Manabendra Batobayal of Barisal Natak, Mizanur Rahman, secretary Barisal Sangskritik Sanagathan Samannya Parisahad, addressed the inaugural session of the festival. The speakers said street theatre is a popular artistic medium in some South Asian and South American countries to protest against all kinds of social and political injustices.
The art form is usually staged on streets and in open spaces for creating awareness among people on any issue, they noticed.
In Bangladesh, street theatre has played a significant role in the past social and political movements. It is also a frequently staged art form to address the contemporary issues.
For promoting such theatre practice two organisations-Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation and Bangladesh Patha Natok Parishad-have been organising street theatre festivals at different parts of the country in different periods, the organizers informed.

Dowry free mass marriage held in Jessore

A total of 20 couples got married without dowry at Kuwait Islami Yatim complex in Gazir Darga area under Jhikargachha upazila here on Friday.
Office sources said Kuwait Relief Committee of Bangladesh arranged the mass marriage ceremony. The weddings of 20 pairs were held there without any dowry.
Director General of the relief committee (Bangladesh chapter) Dr Gazi Jahirul Islam was present on the occasion.

Carpenter, wife found dead in M’singh
Mymenshingh: A couple was found dead in their house at Seedstore Bazar area in Bhaluka upazila on Saturday morning.The deceased were identified as Khokon Mia, 28, a carpenter and son of Jalal Uddin, and his wife Sabina Begum, 20, a garment worker.
Pradip, sub-inspector of Bhaluka Police Station, said getting no response from the house of the couple, neighbours informed police in the morning.Police rushed to the spot and found the body of Sabina lying on bed while that of Khokon hanging from the ceiling of their room. The law enforcers recovered the bodies.Police suspect that Khokon strangulated Sabina to death over some family feud first and then killed himself by hanging at some time in the night.The bodies were sent to hospital morgue for autopsy, reports UNB.
