Schoolgirl violated in Laxmipur; rapist held
LAXMIPUR: A minor schoolgirl was rapped allegedly by a young man at Majuchowdhuryhat in Sadar upazila on Friday.
Quoting family members, police said Delwar, son of Safu Mia of nearby Chararmoni Mohon village, took the class II student of a local school to an abandoned room at the local market by alluring her with chocolate in the morning and violated her there. When the girl raised a hue and cry, Delwar managed to flee the scene. Later local people rescued the girl and got her admitted to Sadar Hospital. Victim’s father filed a case in this connection with Sadar Police Station, said officer-in-charge of the police station Abdullah Al Mamun Bhuiyan. 2 suspected thieves killed in Pabna
PABNA: Two suspected cattle thieves were killed and another injured in a lynch-mob attack at Saradangi Kaziapara village in Ataikula upazila early Saturday. One of the deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam, 40, while the injured was identified as Yearul, 36, son of Osman Goni of Shingra upazila in Natore district. Nure Alam, officer-in-charge of Ataikula Police Station, said a group of thieves swooped on the village around 4 am for stealing cows. Sensing the thieves’ presence, local people chased them off. At one stage, local people caught three of the thieves while the others managed to flee and gave them a good thrashing, leaving two of them dead on the spot and Yearul injured. On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to sadar hospital morgue. Police also arrested Yearul in this connection and got him admitted to Pabna General Hospital. Jahangir Alam Biswas, Ataikula union parishad chairman, said cattle are being stolen from the area very frequently, reports UNB.
Man stabbed to death by uncle
KISHOREGANJ: A man was stabbed to death allegedly by his uncle over a trifling matter at Bir Dampara village in Kishoreganj Sadar upazila on Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Rokanuddin, 33, son of Adbus Sattar, a resident of Bir Dampara village. Locals said on Wednesday morning a goat of Rokanuddin entered the house of his uncle Jasim Uddin and ate a bean tree. Following this, Jasim Uddin rushed to the house of Rokan and engaged in an altercation with Rokan’s wife Jesmine Akter. At a stage, he beat up Jesmine. However, Rokan, after hearing the incident, informed the matter to the village heads. In the evening, the village heads went to Jasim’s house and told him to settle the dispute which angered Jasim. Later, Jasim went to Rokans’s house again and stabbed his nephew, leaving him dead on the spot. On information, police rushed to the spot and took the body to hospital morgue, said Sub-inspector of Kishoreganj Model Police Station Minhaj Uddin, reports UNB.
Tk 3 lakh snatched stabbing GP agent
RAJSHAHI: Muggers snatched away Tk three lakh from a Grameen Phone (GP) official after stabbing him at Pachmaria in Puthia upazila on Wednesday afternoon. The victim was identified as Shitanath Banik, 36, son of Shushil Banik, a resident of Raninagar upazila of Naogaon district. Shitanath represents the mobile phone operator from its Pachmaria local office. Hafizur Rhaman, inspector of Puthia police station, said on Wednesday afternoon, Shitanath was going to Rajshahi city after collecting flexiload (an electronic bill payment system) money from the local traders. When he reached Pachmaria, a gang of muggers numbering six riding three motorbikes swooped on him and stabbed him indiscriminately and took away Tk three lakh from his possession. Injured, the GP representative was first whisked off to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) and later shifted to Dhaka, said Abdul Malek, in-charge of RMCH police outpost, reports UNB.
