5 gamblers held in Sherpur

Jhenaigati thana police of Sherpur district arrested five gamblers from the somessori river dam of Kangsa union on Tuesday.The arrested were identified as Md Suruzzaman(48) sonof late yasuddin, Noressor Chandra(50) son of Norendra, Faruk Mia(20) son of Nawsed Ali, Abu Bakkar(30) son of Batchu Mia, Ismail Hosen(22) son of Moksed Ali. Police and sources said on secrete information jhenaigati thana police led by SI Fozley Alahi raided the area of kangsa union and arrested the gamblers.
5 Shibir men hurt in clash with cops at SUST

At least five activists of Jamaat’s student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir sustained bullet injuries in a clash with police at Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) on Thursday morning. Witnesses said the clash broke out on the campus around 7am when police obstructed a procession brought out by Shibir men in support of their second day strike. Shibir activists first locked the academic building of the university in the morning and later brought out the procession in front of central library of the university. As police tried to obstruct them, the Shibir activists threw brick chips at the law enforcers, prompting them to fire that left five Shibir men injured. SUST unit Shbir, in press briefing on Monday, called two-day strike to press home their five-point demand, including the withdrawal of the expulsion order of 14 Shibir leaders and activists. On February 28, the university authorities expelled 14 leaders and activists of Shibir, including university unit president and general secretary, on charge of vandalising ‘Chetana 71’ and attacking a human chain formed by teachers and students protesting the vandalism in December last year.
RU protester stabbed by miscreants

Some unidentified miscreants stabbed one of the protesters at Rajshahi University (RU) who were protesting against evening masters courses on the campus on Thursday night. The victim was identified as Saju Sardar, a 6th semester student of marketing department of the university and he is also an artist at Somokal Nattichakkra, a leading dramatic organization on the campus. Witnesses said, Saju came under attack in front of the university stadium around 9:30pm while he was on the way of his residential hall after practicing drama at RUCSU bhabon. Some unidentified miscreants swooped on him and stabbed at his hand and chest quoting “you are the protester against evening courses” and left the scene quickly.
Two missing HSC examinees rescued from Khulna

The missing two HSC examinees from Gournadi of Barisal suspected by the family members as abducted , succeeded to flee from the car of the abductors and they were recovered from Khulna on Thursday morning. Sub Inspector Ahsanullah Kabir of Gournadi police station of Barisal and investigation officer of the case, confirming this report said the two victims claimed that they jumped from the vehicles of the abductors Thursday morning and took shelter at Daulatpur police station with minor injuries for jumping. A police team already reached Khulna to collect the recovered missing victims named Kazi Shahriar Anik and Sohag Khan, from Mahisha village under Sharikal union of Gournadi upazila and HSC examinees of Agorpur College. They would be interrogated about the incident and drives to nab the alleged abductors would also be continued, the IO told.
