1200 meters fishing nets seized in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A mobile court seized 1200 meters of fishing nets and three kilogram of hilsha fish from different areas in Padma river under Charghat upazila yesterday afternoon. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdus Samad accompanied by a BGB team conducted a combing operation and seized the huge net and fishes. However, none could be arrested in this connection as the fishermen fled away leaving behind the net. UNO Abdus Samad told journalists that the fishermen were catching immature hilsha fishes violating the government ban. All the law-violators will be brought to book as soon as possible, he added. Meanwhile, the seized nets were destroyed instantly. The fishes were donated to the inmates of nearby Kakmari orphanage, reports BSS.
Drug-trader jailed in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A man was sentenced to suffer six months behind the bars for his involved in trafficking and trading different kinds of drugs and narcotics in Bagmara upazila of the district yesterday. On a tip-off, a police team conducted a sudden raid in Shikdary area under the upazila and arrested Shukur Ali, 55, an active member of drug-trading syndicate of the area, around 5.30 pm. Subsequently, the police team produced him before a mobile court, said Motiar Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Bagmara Police Station. After examining the circumstantial evidences and police reports, Executive Magistrate and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tariqul Islam found him guilty and handed down the verdict. OC Motiar Rahman told local journalists that Shukur Ali was a notorious drug-trader and an element of creating and deteriorating of law and order situation. He was also wanted in various criminal cases. “We are trying to detain his cohorts,” he added, reports BSS.
4 held over fraudulence in Magura
MAGURA: Police in separate drives arrested four people on charge of cheating unemployed young men out of money in the name of giving them job from different parts of Sreepur upazila on Friday. The arrestees were identified as Shamim Ahmed, 32, son of Harunur Rashid, Ziaur Rahman, 35, soon of Emeduzzaman, Saidur Rahman, 40, and Tushar Khan, 28, son of Abul Hossain. Following the complaint filed by some deception victims, police conducted separate drives in the upazila on Friday morning and arrested them. They collected money ranging from Tk 30,000 to one lakh each from the unemployed young men in the name of giving them job in the Bangladesh Army. A case was filed in this connection, reports UNB.
One arrested for giving proxy in madrasa examination

One youth handed over to police in Barisal on Saturday for giving proxy as against an Alim examinee under madrasa education board. The arrested proxy-examinee was identified as Md. Faisal, Fazil first year student of Chandpura Kamil Madrasa and son of Sahalam Sardar from Indrakathi area of Barisal city. Shakhawat Hossain, Kotwali police station officer in charge, said Faisal was handed over to police by authourity of Sagaordi Islamia Madrasa centre after lodging a case in this connection. Saleh Ahmed, assistant controller of examination of Madrasa Board , said during visiting the center and checking admit cards found that accused Faisal was giving proxy in Fiqh subject against Riazul Islam, one Alim examinee of his madrasa. Then police was called and the proxy-examinee Faisal handed over to assistant sub inspector Shohidul Alam.
Elderly man crushed under wheel of bus

An elderly man was crushed under a speeding bus in Panchliya Bazar area under Solonga Police Station of the district on Thursday morning. The deceased was identified as Abu Bakkar Siddique, 65, son of Ahad Ali, a resident of Amdanga village. Abdul Kader Zilani, officer-in-charge of Hatikumrul Police Station, said the accident took place in the area around 11am, when the bus hit him, leaving him dead on the spot. On information, police recovered the body. A case was filed in this connection.
