International Day for Elderly observed in Bhola

On the occasion of International Day for Elderly Persons, Bangladesh Association for the Aged, Bhola Chapter organised a rally and discussion meeting in collaboration with district administration and Social Welfare Department. A rally was brought out from D.C office and the rally moved to important places of the city. Elderly people, local government officials, NGO representative, journalists and people from other sections of the society participated in the rally. Following the rally, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of D.C office. The meeting was chaired by Mohammad Selim Reza, District Commissioner, Bhola. BAAIGM Bhola Chapter President Mizanur Rahman Jewel was also present in the meeting. Many important issues including safety measure and rights for elderly people was discussed in the meeting. BAAIGM Bhola chapter took week- long programme to celebrate the occasion in the district level.
Founding day of Chuadanga Press Club observed

Whip of Jatiya Sangsad Solaiman Hoque Zoarder M P said that journalism is the best profession. He said this at a function of 50 th founding anniversary of Chuadanga Press Club at Chuadanga Press Club hall as chief guest on Monday. The function was presided over by Mahatab Uddin, President of the club. It was addressed among others by A D C Mr Abu Syed, A S P Balayet Hossain, founding president of the Club Mokbular Rahman, Sarder Al Amin. Former principal of Chuadanga Govt Collage Prof Siddique Rahman Tohid Hossain journalist Shah Alom Sony.

Md. Amzad Husain, former principal of Bagerhat Khanjahan Ali Degree College breathed his last in his son’s residence in Dhaka on Eid day morning when he was suddenly attacked with a massive cardiac attack. He was 71. He left behind his two sons, three daughters, one brother and a host of relatives, friends and admirers to mourn his death . He was the son of late Jamal Uddin Tarafdar of village Bhatsala under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district. Amzad Husain started his teaching carrier as a lecturer in Economics of Gilatala Abul Kalam Degree College under Rampal Upazila in the district in 1968.
Man gets life term for killing wife in Chandpur
CHANDPUR: A court here on Wednesday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term rigorous imprisonment for killing his pregnant wife in 2002. The convict was identified as Mohammad Masud, 28, an adopted son of Mohammad Nurul Islam Gazi, a resident of Shahtoli village in sadar upazila. The court also fined him Tk one lakh. According to the prosecution, Masud beat and strangulated his pregnant wife Salma Begum, 22, over dowry in a rented house at the village on October 27, 2009. Mariam Begum, victim’s mother, filed a case with Chandpur Model Police Station in this connection on October 28, reports UNB.
Housewife electrocuted in Magura
MAGURA: A housewife died from electrocution at Balidia village in Mohammadpur upazila on Wednesday evening. The deceased was identified as Hasina Begum, 45, wife of Ratan Mondal, a resident of the village. Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station, said Hasina was electrocuted as she came in contact with a live electric circuit while working in their under-construction house in the evening and was injured critically. Later she was rushed to Mohammadpur Sadar Hospital where doctors declared her dead, reports UNB.
Man dies falling from tree in Jessore
BENAPOLE: A man died falling from a mahogany tree at Ratandia village in Moirampur upazila on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as Alauddin Gazi, 40, a resident of the village. Deceased’s bother Giasuddin Gazi said Alauddin climbed on the tree for cutting its branches in the morning.At one stage, he fell down from the tree and was injured critically. Later he was rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, reports UNB.
