Two youths held with phensidyl in C’nawabganj

Detective Branch of police arrested two young men along with 322 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup from Haripur area on the Chapainawabganj-Rajshahi highway in the district town on Saturday night. The arrestees were identified as Motaleb,19, son of Manirul Islam of Barchar village in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj, and Akash,22, son of Majibar Rahman of Madaripur district. DB police inspector Hamidur Rashid said tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area and arrested the duo while they were waiting for a bus at about 9:45 pm. Later, the law enforcers also recovered the 322 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup from their possession. A case was filed in this connection.
Two smugglers injured in gunfight in Kushtia
KUSHTIA: Two alleged smugglers received bullet injuries in a gunfight between two groups they belonged to at Bilgathua border point in Daulatpur upazila on Saturday night. One of the injured was identified as Rahabul Islam, 28, son of Abul Hosain, of the village.Police said a clash ensued between two groups of smugglers-one led by Rahabul Islam and another by Robiul Islam-in the area around 11pm.At one stage, Robiul Islam opened fire on the men of Rahabul, which left two people, including Rahabul, injured. Later, rescued by his men, Rahabul was admitted to Kushtia Sadar Hospital, reports UNB.
1 gets two months’ jail for selling train tickets
BRAHMANBARIA: A mobile court on Saturday sentenced a young man to two months’ jail for selling train tickets in the black market. The convict was identified as Sohel Miah,25, son of Pashchim Mourail area of the district town.
Police said the mobile court led by executive magistrate Sabbir Ahmed conducted a drive in the station area and arrested Sohel along with four tickets of a Dhaka-bound train in the afternoon. Later, Sohel was produced before the mobile court, which sentenced him to two months’ imprisonment. Railway station master Mahidur Rahman confirmed the incident., reports UNB.
Youth electrocuted in Jhenidah

A young man died from electrocution at Kala village in Sadar upazila on Saturday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Ashraful Islam, 32, son of Shadat Islam of the village. Locals said Ashraful came in contact with a live electric wire while lifting water with pump at his house in the afternoon. Later, he was rushed to a local clinic where doctors declared him dead.
4-day long Tax Fair begins at Narsingdi

A four-day Tax Fair,a part of the country wide programme to motivate the citizens for paying taxes has began here at Narsingdi Pourashava auditorium on Friday. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Suriaya Begum inaugurated the fair as chief guest with Deputy Commissioner of Taxes Sayid Chowdhury in the chair. Among others, Joint Commissioner of Taxes Wahad Ullah Khan, Deputy Commissioner Taxes Abdur Rashid Talukder President of Narsingdi Chamber of Commerce Abdullah -Al Mamon, former president Ak Fazlul Hoque, president of Income Tax Lawyer’s Association Razi Uddin Ahmed and Sultan Mahamud addressed the inaugural session. In the inaugural speech the chief guest stressed the need of paying taxes for helping the government to carry on the development activities for the welfare of the people. She said the country need to mobilize internal resources and tax is the most important sector for it. She said for encouraging the people to pay taxes, the tax fair introduced in the country from 2010 and the number submitting tax returns have been on increasing trend.
