RU Chhatra Moitri demands ban on Jamaat-Shibir politics

Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra Moitri of Rajshahi University Unit on Saturday demanded ban on Jamaat-Shibir politics in the country. They raised the demand at a rally on campus marking the 22nd death anniversary of Chhatra Moitri leader Jubaer Chowdhury Rimu who was killed by Islami Chhatra Shibir activists at RU on September 19, 1993. Over 50 leaders and activists brought out a procession from in front of the university Sher-E-Bangla hall which paraded the main streets of the campus. Later, they joined at a short rally at the university Tukitaki Chattar presided over by Mahabub Alam Sujon, Bangladesh Chhatra Moitri RU unit president . Addressing at rally leaders of the student body said Jaamat and Shibir cadres are trying to destabilise the country as the government is ensuring the punishment to the war criminals.
Woman’s decomposed body recovered in Jessore

Abhaynagar police on Thursday recovered the body of an unidentified woman from an abandoned well at Shingari village under the upazila, said the police. Bazlur Rahman, assistant sub inspector, Bhatpara police investigation camp under Abhaynagar upazila told that being informed by locals the police recovered the decomposed body of the unidentified woman, aged about 32 years on Thursday. ‘She could be strangled to death by the killers’, he added.
The body was sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital for autopsy, said the police.
VGF rice allocated for Narail Pourasabha
NARAIL: The government has allocated 46.210 tonnes of rice under special Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme for the poor of the pourasavha to assist them for celebrating the holy Eid-ul-Azha. According to official sources, over 4,621 VGF card holder extremely poor and distressed beneficiary families of nine wards of the pourasabha will get the allocated rice with 10-kg rice per family. Ministry of Food and Disaster Management has allocated the rice for the beneficiary poor families to assist them celebrating the Eid. Poura mayor Mostafa Kamal inaugurated the distribution programme at his office this morning, reports BSS.
One held with 750 Yaba tablets in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged drug trader with 750 pieces of yaba tablets in Roypara area under Rajpara Police Station in the city last night, RAB sources said here yesterday.
The arrested was Khorshed Alam, 26, son of Aktar Hossain, of the same area. On a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a sudden raid in the area at around 8.40 pm and arrested him with the contraband drugs. The arrested person and seized goods were handed over to the police and a case was recorded with Rajpara Police Station in this connection, reports BSS.
6 Jamaat-Shibirmen held in Pirojpur
PIROJPUR: Police in a drive arrested six activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir from Namajpur area in sadar upazila on Saturday morning. The arrestees were Rakibul Islam Tanvir, Ismail Molla, Nakib Billah, Shamim Hasan, Abdullah Al Masud and Shakib Hosaain Jahid, hailing from different upazilas of the district. Being tipped off that some Jamaat-Shibir men were holding a clandestine meeting in the house of one Salam Mollah of the area, a team of police led by Mashimur Rahman, officer in charge of sadar Police Station, conducted a drive in the house around 11:10am and arrested them. They also seized some Jihadi books from the house, reports UNB.
