Robbery in Sylhet houses

A gang of robbers looted valuables worth Tk 6 lakh from one houses in Holimpur villages of Osmani Nogor Police Station in Balagonj upazila of the Sylhet district on Tuesday night. Robbers looted gold ornaments and cash worth more than taka six lakhs from six houses, said victims. Local said , a gang of masked robbers equipped with fire arms swooped on the houses of Abdullah of village Holimpur in Balagonj upazila and looted cash Tk 2,00,000 and gold ornaments worth about Tk six lakh.
The robbers then attacked the houses of Sonnan Miah and Rukshana Begum, by holding family members hostage and looted gold ornaments, cash, mobile phone sets and other valuables worth Tk about six lakh.
Book fair held in C’nawabganj

A five- daylong book fair concluded on Friday with the call for building up the practice of reading books in Chapainawabganj. The concluding function of the fair was held at the municipality park in the town with the deputy commissioner of Chapainawabganj Sardar Sarafat Ali in the chair. Law maker of Chapainawabganj sadar constituency Md. Abdul Wadud attended the function as chief guest.Among others, additional district magistrate Ashraful Islam, additional deputy commissioner (General) Dr. KM Quamruzzaman Selim and assistant superintendent of police Wahedul Hoque spoke on the occasion.The fair started on March 3. A total of 22 bookstalls were installed in the fair. The fair remained open from 3 pm to 9 pm everyday and recitation and cultural function were held in the fair everyday.
Gorkoi Mela inaugurated at Ranisankail

A 5- day long historical ‘Gorkoi Baruni Mela’ was inaugurated at Nekmarad Union of Ranisankail Upazilla in Thakurgaon district on Friday. On the occasion, Thakurgaon-3 M.P. Prof. Yeasin Ali was present Chief Guest. Re-elected woman Vice-chairman Selina Jahan Lita, Upazilla AL Secretary Abdul Kader, Central Chhatra League vice president Shariar Azam Munna and Principal Tajul Islam and Press Club President Prof. Anwarul Islam were special guests. Besides, political, social and cultural leaders and journalists were present. Among others, Mela Committee President Lolit Chandra Roy, cultural leader Anil Basak, lecturer Prasant Basak and UP chairman Enamul Haq spoke.
