2 construction workers electrocuted in Comilla

Two construction workers died from electrocution while another was injured in Burichang upazila headquarters yesterday morning. The deceased were identified as Mahsin,35, and Ismael,37. Witnesses said Mahsin, Ismael and Rasel came in a contact with a live electric wire when they were working in an under-construction building in the area at about 9:00 am, leaving the trio injured. Later, Mahsin and Ismael died while being taken to the Upazila Health Complex. Officer-in-Charge of Burichang Police Station Uttam Barua confirmed the incident.

Trader hacked in Sylhet

A trader was hacked by unidentified miscreants at Amberkhana area of the district town early Tuesday. The injured was identified as–Ali Ahmed, 29, owner of Ahmed Store and also an activist of Jatiyabadi Chhatra Dal. Witnesses said, Ali came under attack around 1am while he was returning home from shop.Later, he was rushed to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Kotwali Police Station OC Sohel Hossain said, no complaint was filed with the thana.

4 held with yaba tablets in Sylhet

Law enforcers in a drive arrested four young men in possession of 400 pieces of Yaba tablets from Emidpur area on the Biswanath-Rashidpur road in Biswanath upazila on Monday night. The arrestees were identified as Jahirul Haque, 25, son of Lifai Ullah of Kasba village in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj district; Mamun Miah,22, son of Siraj Bhandari of Sherpur village in Sadar upazila of Moulvibazar; Rajib Miah,21, son of Afzal Miah of Jalalpur village in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj, and Tipu Miah,26, son of Nur Miah of Baksipur village under Osmaninagar thana of Sylhet city. Officer-in-charge of Bisanath Police Station Rafiqul Hossain said tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested the four at about 9:30 pm.Later, the law enforcers also recovered 400 pieces of Yaba tablets from their possession. A case was filed in this connection.

Janmastami celebrated in Bagerhat

Janmastami (the birth anniversary of God Sree Krisna) was celebrated in Bagerhat town with all pomp and splendor on Saturday as else where of the country. Earlier Bagerhat District Unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Committee chalked out an elaborate programme for 2 days (September 4 and 5) in order to celebrate Janmastami in a befitting manner. The programme included recitation competition from the holy Sreemat Bhagabat Geeta, discussion meeting on the life of Bhagaban Sree Krisna, colourful rally, rendering songs based on Sanatan religion. The venue of the celebration was the local Shaltala Harishava temple premises. The colourful rally that was brought out from the temple premises of Harishava temple paraded the main roads of Bagerhat district town. All the progrmmes were presided over by Amit Roy, President of Bagerhat district Jnmastami Udjapan Committee.
