3 held with 2,890 bottles of phensidyl in Pirojpur
PIROJPUR: Police arrested three people along with 2,890 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup from a trawler at Nawapara in the Sandhya River in Nesarabad upazila on Friday evening.
The arrestees were identified as Faruk, Abdur Rashid and Nurul Islam, all residents of Labanchora village in Sadar upazila of Khulna district. Officer-in-charge of Nesarabad Police Station Manirul Islam said tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and seized a trawler at about 7:00 pm. Later, the law enforcers recovered 2890 bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup searching the trawler and arrested the four. Details of the drive will be informed about the drive at a press briefing at about 1:00 pm reports UNB.
Export-import thru’ Benapole suspended for Janmastami
BENAPOLE: Export and import activities between Bangladesh and India through Benapole land port remained suspended on Saturday due to Janmashtami, one of the major religious festivals of the Hindu community marking the birth of Lord Krishna. Kartik Chakrabarty, general secretary of Petrapole C&F Agent Staff Welfare Association, said the trade activities between the two countries were suspended on the occasion of Janmashtami. However, the trade activities will resume on Sunday. Besides, the crossing of passport holders remained normal. Janmashtami is being celebrated yesterday, reports UNB.
Jamaat leader, son held in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: Police arrested a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami and his son while they were holding a ‘clandestine meeting’ at BRAC More in Palashbari upazila on Friday night.
The arrestees were identified as former upazila chairman and Palashbari upazila Jamaat unit ameer Maulana Nazrul Islam Lebu and his son Jamaat leader Advocate Golam Azam. Majibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Palashbari Police Station, said on secret information, a team of police launched a raid on a house in the area and arrested the duo while they were holding a secret meeting there at about 11:30 pm. However, their other associates fled the scene sensing the presence of the law enforcers. The arrestees were wanted in several cases including for arson attack and subversive activities, the OC added, reports UNB.
Training on mobile health prog ends in Chilmari
Rangpur: The five-day technical training on mobile health programme for Friendship Community Medic-Aides (FCM) organised by Friendship, an NGO, ended at its Training Centre in Chilmari upazila of Kurigram on Thursday afternoon. GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) extended assistance in organising the training course on mobile health service participated by 25 female Friendship Community Medic-Aides as volunteers from different char areas under Chilmari and Rajibpur upazilas of Kurigram. The training was organised for educating local female volunteers on necessary knowledge, technology and skill so that they could make communication for providing mobile health services to the people in the remote and hardly reachable char areas. Chilmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Aslam Mollah attended the concluding ceremony of the training course as the chief guest with District Coordinator of Friendship Abdus Salam in the chair.
Housewife electrocuted in Jessore
BENAPOLE (Jessore) : A housewife died from electrocution at Hatbila village in Sadar upazila of Jessore district on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Renu Begum, 31, wife of Badshah Haldar of the village. Sources said Renu came in contact with a live electric wire while doing household chores around 8pm, leaving her critically injured. Later she was rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead, resports UNB.
