Minor boy electrocuted in Barisal

A minor boy was electrocuted in Sholok village under Ujirpur upazila of the district yesterday morning. The victim was identified as Hasan Sarder, 3, son of Jabbar Sarder of the same village. Police and local sources said Hasan injured critically as he came in contact with a live electric while he was playing near his house. Hasan was sent to local hospital where doctor declared him dead.
BCC workers protest jailing by mobile court
Sweepers and garbage cleaners of Barisal City Corporation on Tuesday noon demonstrated and cordoned land office with filthy wastes against jailing one of them by mobile court for dumping garbage in front of that busy office in Port Road area . A mobile court led by Md. Iliasur Rahman, assistant commissioner for land and administrative magistrate, on Tuesday noon jailed Saddam Hossain, sweeper and garbage-cleaner of BCC, to 15-day imprisonment for illegally dumping garbage in front of busy land office complex at Barisal Port Road area. Magistrate Iliasur Rahman said the action was taken after hundreds of people daily visit the land office and busy Barisal Port area complained against over loaded open-dustbin with nasty items and severe bad smell.
Shibir activist held in Sylhet

Police arrested an activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir from Lamakaji Bazar area in Bishwanath upazila of Sylhet district recently. The arrestee was identified as Selim Ahmad,25, son of late Ilias Ali of Keshabpur village of the upazila. Officer-in-charge of Bishwanath Police Station Rafiqul Hossain said tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Selim at about 9:00 pm. The arrestee was wanted in three cases for subversive activities, including torching vehicles and hurling petrol bombs, with Bishwanath Police Station.
Housewife commits suicide in Jhenidah

A housewife allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room at Kabirpur village in Shailakupa municipality area on Friday. The deceased was identified as Kanak Rani,35, wife of Suranjan Karmaker, a resident of the village. Sujon, son of the deceased, said Kanak Rani took loan amounting to Tk1.5 lakh from different organisations including Grameen Bank, Padakkhep, Asha and Ad Deen to establish a city gold shop for him (Sujon). She had been paying regularly the loan instalments. At one stage, she could not afford repaying the loan money that created a huge burden of debt on her. Consequently, she killed herself by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room in the afternoon.
Snakebite kills college girl in Satkhira
SATKHIRA : A college girl died from snakebite at Tengrakhali village in Sadar upazila on Friday. The deceased was identified as Shilpi Khatun, student of Shahid Smrity College and daughter of Ful Gazi of the village.Local sources said a venomous snake bit Shilpi while she was sleeping in her home in the morning. Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Imdad Sheikh confirmed the incident, reports UNB.
Youth held with arms, ammo in C’nawabganj

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a young man in possession of one foreign-made pistol, four magazines and 10 rounds of bullet from Dadanchak Adina College More area in Shibganj upazila on Friday. The arrestee was identified as Benjir Ali,25, son of Nuhu Uddin, a resident of Sahapara Choighoria village of the upazila. Rab-5 said in a press release, tipped of that Benjir was staying in the area along with illegal firearms, a team of the elite force conducted a drive there at about 3:15 pm.
Later, the law enforcers arrested Benjir and recovered one foreign-made pistol, four magazines and 10 rounds of bullet from his possession.
A case was filed in this connection.
