7th Int’l Children’s Film Fest ends at Barisal

The four-day long 7th International Children’s Film Festival Bangladesh at Barisal venue begins on Tuesday night calling to build awareness on different social issues. Children’s Film Society of Bangladesh Barisal unit organised the event at Barisal Ashwini Kumar Hall in the city titled “Future in Frames” without any entrance fee or commercial value. Tanjilur Rahman Rafi, president CFS Barisal, said one of the main goals of the festival should be to build awareness on different social issues as well as a powerful media of learning through healthy entertainment, said the chief guest. It will give children a basic idea on film to create their interest on the media and to understand its role, he hoped. The objectives of the festival was to ‘open a new world of cinema to the children of Bangladesh and to give them an exposure to culture and tradition of different countries through film as a powerful media of art’, said Abida Binte Hafiz, press media convener of CIFS festival at Barisal venue. Mainly children and students of different schools organized to come in groups in the festival, she added. The festival at Barisal venue featured over 26 short , full length feature and animated films produced by the film makers of 15 countries like Argentina, Bangladesh, China, Ethiopia, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Iran, Latvia, Luxembourg, Spain, Taiwan , UK and USA.
Drug peddler held with phensidyl in Jhenidah

 Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-6) of Jhenidah arrested a drug peddler with 300 bottles Indian contraband phensidyl syrup from Chaklapara area of Jhenidah district town on on Wednesday early hours The arrestee is Robiul Islam Robi son of Lutfor Rahman of Chaklapara area of the district town. Camp commander squadron leader Niaz Mohammad Faysal of Jhenidah said, on a tip off, on Wednesday early hours at around 4:30 am a team of RAB-6 launched a drive at Chaklapara area of the district town and arrested Robi with 300 bottles Indian contraband phensidyl syrup from his possession. He has been running this illegal trade for long, the commander added.
Prize giving function of Sarada Sundary College held
FARIDPUR : The annual prize distribution function of local government Sarada Sundary Mahilla College was held on Monday on the college campus. In the function, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abu Hena Morshed Zaman was the chief guest while Professor M Shahjahan, former principal of the college attended as the chief guest. The function was chaired by Principal of the college Professor Hasina Banu. DC Morshed Zaman called upon the students to devote to studies for building themselves as the worthy citizens of the country. The scope of employment and work in various fields of the nation building activities have increased remarkably for the educated women and they must utilize it, he said. The present government has attached extensive importance to the development of female education in the country so that our women folk come forward breaking shackles of several superstitions and age old social barriers, he added. He also reminded all that women constitute fifty percent of our total population so their positive role is needed for prosperous Bangladesh.
Later, prizes were distributed among the winners of literary, cultural and indoor games winners, reports BSS.
