Workshop on e-GP held in C’nawabganj

A day- long workshop on ‘Electronic Government Procurement’ (e-GP) was held at the conference room of the Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED), Chapainawabganj on Monday. It was arranged by Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of the Implementation Monitoring & Evaluation Division of the Ministry of Planning under Public Procurement Reform Project-2 with the association of Bangladesh Centre for Communication Programmes (BCCP). Director (Rules and Training) of CPTU Wahedunnabi, training manager of BCCP Badal Haldar and programme coordinator of the same Mamunur Rahman spoke as resource persons. The concluding session of the workshop was held with the executive engineer of LGED, Chapainawabganj Siddiqur Rahman Bhuyan in the chair and was addressed by deputy commissioner of Chapainawabganj Mohammad Jahangeer Kobir as chief guest and director of CPTU Wahedunnabi as special guest. Speakers in the concluding session of the workshop said, at the implementation of Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) and e-tendering systems, terrorism, snatching of tender boxes and corruption have reduced and transparency and accountability have increased in government procurement. They added that procurement of Tk. 78,000 crore is done in the government sectors for development every year. In order to remove corruption in this sector government passed Public Procurement Act (PPA) in 2006 and Public Procurement Rules (PPR) in 2008, they added.

 2 smugglers held with tiger skin in Barisal

 Rapid Action Battalion Unit-8 on Wednesday detained two members of wild-life smuggler gang from a house at Khulna customs gate area on Tuesday night. The arrestees were identified as Abdul Jalil Gazi and Md. Ashraf Fakir of the area. RAB recovered one 7 feet long skin of tiger from the arrestees. Major Adnan, deputy commander, in a press briefing at RAB-8 headquarter in Barisal on Wednesday morning said these. RAB -8 official claimed that acting on a tip-off, they conducted a raid in the area on Tuesday night and arresting Abdul Jalil Gazi and Md. Ashraf Fakir from the spot recovered the tiger-skin from their custody. In interrogation, the arrestees acknowledged that they involved with wild-life including tiger-skin smuggling since a long time. RAB filed handed over the arrestees to Bania Khamar police station of Khulna filing a case in this connection.
