A team of Rapid Action Battalion Unit-8 on early Friday raiding a pharmaceutical factory in the city seized 7, 64,100 pain-killer tablets. The seized tablets branded as ‘Indofenac-50’ was produced by Indo-Bangla Pharmaceutical Company of Barisal. RAB-8 said the drive led by Nizamuddin Haolader, assistant superintendent of police, was operated on basis of the list of banned medicines sent to them by drug administration department. Seized tablets were also enlisted in the banned items list of the drug administration, RAB-8 claimed. Bithi Rani Mandal, inspector of drug administration department, accompanied the drive of RAB-8. Bithi said drug administration in latest circular included production of pain-killer ‘Diclofenac-50’ in the list of banned drugs. Indo-Bangla Pharmaceutical Company produces that item as ‘ Indofenac-50’. F M Anwarul Huq, Managing Director of Indo Bangla Pharaceuticals, claimed they yet not received any letter from drug administration about banning ‘Indofenac-50’. Shakhawat Hossain, Kotwali police station officer in charge, said seized drugs yet not handed over to them and no case was lodged.
Two held with arms, ammo in Chapainawabganj

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested two alleged arms traders with a foreign made pistol, two magazines and four rounds of bullet from a mango market at Chakdoulatpur under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Thursday afternoon. The arrested persons have been identified as Md. Tozammel Hoque Tofazzal, 37, son of Md. Yunus Ali and Md. Mirazul Islam, 21, son of Md. Moinuddin both of Israil More under Shibganj municipality. RAB said, acting on detective information, a team of RAB from Chapainawabganj camp in plain dress raided the area at around 12-30 pm and held them red handed. In primary interrogation they admitted that they had been involved in illegal arms business for a long time, the sources added. Later they were handed over to the police of Shibganj thana with a case.
Inter-School Debate competition held

Under the auspices of SANAC (Sachetan Nagarik Committee), Bagerhat with the assistance of TIB (Transparency International Bangladesh) the 6th Inter (High) School debate competition-2015 was held in the local Sanskritik Foundation on Thursday. The topic was ‘Juktir Aloke Khunji Durnity Protirodher Path (Search the Way to Resist the Corruption in the Light of Reasons/Arguments). Some 6 High Schools participated in the debate competition from Bagerhat district town and its adjacent areas. Earlier Prof. ABM. Mosharraf Husain, convener of the Education affairs of SANAC, Bagerhat explained the aims and objections of holding such a competition. Local Govt. Girls’ High School won the championship scoring 180.10 points while Bagerhat Multilateral College and School became the runners up scarring 150 points. Certificates, prizes and crests were distributed among the members of both the champion and the runners up teams.
PEBO distributed educational materials, donated money in Rangpur

Power Energy Bangladesh One (PEBO) Inc. distributed education materials among 800 poor and meritorious students in Gojoghanta and Morneya unions under Gangachara upazila of the district under its project “Alokito Rangpur Solar Project”. They also denoted Tk 45,000 to 45 destitute people of the two unions. Marking the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s 40th death anniversary and National Mourning Day, they organised separate day-long programmes at Char Chhalapak Government Primary School in Gojoghanta union and Alal Char in Morneya union on Thursday. General Secretary of Morneya union unit of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) Mohsin Ali, local social worker Majumder Rahman Liton and Morneya High School teacher Md Abdur Razzak patronised the programmes. Presided over by Md Mahbubar Rahman, teacher of Char Chhalapak Government Primary School, Mr Don, chairman of Alokito Rangpur Solar Project was present as chief guest. American expatriate Mohiuddin Ahmed, vice president of Alokito Rangpur Solar Project and his wife Selina Khan were present as special guests at the programmes. Later, they distributed different education materials among 800 students and donated Tk 45,000 among 45 destitute people of the two unions.

2 held with 2,100 yaba pills in Comilla
COMILLA: Police in a drive arrested two people, including a woman, along with 2,100 pieces of Yaba tablet from a bus on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway near Daudkandi toll Plaza in Daudkandi upazila early Saturday. The arrestees were identified as Rabeya Begum, 30, wife of Manirul Islam of Boalia village in sadar upzila of Madaripur district, and Abul Bashar, 35, son of Ershad Master of Nikli upazila in Kishoreganj district.
Abdus Salam, officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Police Station, said acting on secret information, a team of police intercepted a Dhaka-bound Shyamoli Paribahan bus and arrested Rabeya along with 1,500 pieces of Yaba tablet, kept inside the soles of her shoes, around 4:35 am. Later police also arrested Abul Bashar along with 600 pieces of yaba tablet from the bus. Meanwhile, in another drive, a team of police from Daudkandi Model Police Station recovered 195 bottles of Phensidyl syrup from a Dhaka-bound private car in Biswaroad area of the upazila around 6.00 am, reports UNB.
