Educational materials distributed in C’nawabganj

Educational equipment were distributed among 14 educational institutions of Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila on Thursday. The equipments included 14 laptops, 14 multimedia projectors, 14 multimedia screens, 14 sound-systems, 175 benches, 33 shilling fans, 142 footballs and 30 volleyballs with nets. The materials were distributed under Annual Development Programme (2014-2015) of the upazila. Law maker of Chapainawabganj sadar constituency Md. Abdul Wadud distributed the materials as chief guest. A function was arranged on the occasion at the conference room of the upazila parishad. Held with the upazila nirbahi officer Mirza Shakila Dil Hasin in the chair, it was addressed by acting chairman of the upazila Yasmin Ara Begum, vice chairman Maolana Sohrab Ali and upazila engineer ANM Wahiduzzaman.
One held with arms, ammu
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested an alleged arms trader with a pistol, a magazine and four bullets from a mango orchard at Bholahat in Chapainawabganj on Thursday. The arrested person has been identified as Md. Yakub, 35, son of Md. Mursalin of Zinnanagar under Bholahat upazila of the district. RAB said, acting on detective information, a team of RAB from Chapainawabganj camp in plain dress raided a mango orchard in front of Adatala Government Primary School at around 11-30 am and held him with the arms and ammunition. Later he was handed over to the police of Bholahat thana with a case.He had been involved in illegal arms business for a long time, the sources added.
Two held with Yaba

Rapid Action Battalion on Thursday night arrested two suspected drug traders along with 200 pieces of Yaba tablets raiding an area at Nabharan Rail Bazar in Jessore district.The arrested are Alamgir Hossain and Oziar Rahman of Sharifpur village under Jhikargachha upazila in Jessore. The arrested are listed drug traders at the area, said the RAB.
BGB seizes spices
Border Guard Bangladesh men on Friday noon seized a total of 6 tonnes of spice that was smuggled into Bangladesh from India, said Lt Col Abdur Rahim, Commanding Officer, 23 Border Guard Battalion. The BGB official told that the frontier forces seized the spice raiding a truck at Jamtala on the Jessore- Benapole Road on Friday noon. The goods were deposited to Benapole customs warehouse after filing a case. None was arrested in this connection.
Environ Department fined 15 business enterprises

Task force of directorate of environment on Thursday fined 15 business enterprises total Tk. 19,400 and seized 64 Kg. banned polythene.Tania Afroz, administrative magistrate and assistant commissioner (land) of Gournadi led the drive at Batajor and Mahilara market areas on Barisal-Dhaka highway Thursday noon.Officials of DoE, members of law enforcing agencies, assisted her during the drive, said Sukumar Biswas, director DoE Barisal office.During operating the drive stickers, posters, handbills, were also distributed among mass people and businessmen to create awareness and sensations, the DoE officials said.

84,000 Indian cigarettes seized in Sylhet

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 84,000 cigarettes of Indian Nasir brand from Kumarpara border village of Kanaighat upazila on Wednesday. Mohammad Saiful Islam, assistant director of Kanaighat BGB 31 battalion, said a team of BGB led by habildar Mohammad Montu Miah of Suraighat BoP conducted a drive at the village in the afternoon. Sensing the presence of BGB, the smugglers fled away from the scene. Later the BGB team seized the Indian cigarettes from the spot.

Woman crashed under train
A woman was crashed under wheels of a local train at Harespur area in Madhabpur upazila of the district on Friday morning. The deceased was Rahima Khatun, 25, daughter of Alai Miah of Jamalpur village of the upazila. Police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar hospital morgue. In charge of Shaestaganj Railway police Abul Kashem confirmed the incident.

Youth commits suicide in Habiganj
Habiganj Correspondent
A youth allegedly committed suicide by taking poison at Lukra village under Sadar upazila last night. The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam, 17, son of Sirajul Islam of the same area. Police said Nazrul took poison for unknown reason and became sick.
Nazrul was admitted to Sadar Adhunik Hospital where he died midnight.
