Workshop on survey results at SUST

A workshop on ‘Sharing the Survey Result’ was held at the seminar room of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet on Monday. The Department of Forestry and Environmental Science of SUST has organised the workshop. SUST vice chancellor Prof Dr Aminul Hoque Bhuyan was present at the programme as the chief guest with Prof Dr Narayan Saha, head of the Forestry and Environmental Science Department, in the chair. SUST treasurer Elias Uddin Biswas and Prof Abdul Awal Biswas, director of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), were present at the workshop as the special guests. Associate Prof Dr Belal Uddin, lecturer Shourov Das spoke over the programme among others. The seminar was arranged by department of Anthropology in association with IAA at the central auditorium of the university at around 4:00pm.
Meeting on law and order held in Sylhet
Adv Amatul Kibriya keya Choudury MP on Monday called for building a corruption free Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He made the call while addressing the district law and order committee meeting at deputy commissioner’s conference room here. Deputy Commissioner Md. Joynal Abadin presided over the meeting. The speakers discussed various issues relating to law and order situation including illegal migration, proliferation of narcotics, gambling, eve- teasing in the district. MP keya Choudury recalled Bangabandu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the mourning month and said, the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is serious about maintaining law and order in the country. He also said that the imams can play a positive role in preventing erosion in social values and customs, crimes like drug abuse, child marriage, practice of dowry, eve- teasing, militancy, extremism and terrorism. He asked the police force to perform their duties properly and honestly and urged the journalist for making objective reports.
Punishment of attackers on UP chairman demanded

Different organisations in Pirganj upazial of Rangpur on Wednesday demanded exemplary punishment of the miscreants, who attack Chhatra Union Parishad (UP) chairman. Bangladesh UP Chairman Samity of Pirganj upazial unit, Bangladesh Shikkhok Samity of the upazila unit, Bangladesh Chal Kal Malik Samity of the upazila unit and Chatra UP jointly organised a press conference at Pirganj Press Club hall room at 1:00pm and made the demand. Anwarul Islam Mannu, president of Bangladesh Shikkhok Samity of the upazila unit read out a written statement at the press conference. In the written statement Anwarul said a group of miscreants led by, Sarwar Jahan Sagor, 25, son of late Saiful Islam also the nephew of Mizanur Rahman Raju, chairman of Chatar UP, former president of Bangladesh Shikkhok Samity of the upazila unit and general secretary of Bangladesh Chal Kal Malik Samity of the upazila unit are continuing unsocial activities including drug selling, gambling at different area of Chatra for long. Anwarul said Sagor and his associates become very aggrieved as chairman Raju protested their illegal and unsocial activities and stopped their drug selling and gambling at different spots in his union. At last, around 10:00am on July 19, a group of miscreants led by Sagor stormed into Raju’s house at Chatra Bazar area and attacked Raju with sharp weapons and bamboo sticks and iron rods leaving him critically injured.
3 drug traders arrested along with 1160 yaba in Mollahat

Three drug traders were arrested along with1160 pieces Yaba from Dariala bazar under Mollahat Upazila in Bagerhat district by the DB police on Saturday night. The drug traders are Tarikul Islam alias Tarek (27), son of one Fazlur Rahman alias Fulu Kazi of village Baaysona under Laragati Upazila in Narail district, Enamul Kabir (40), son of one late Afzal Shaikh of village Ballahati under the same Upazila and Nawab Ali Molla (47), son of one late Jalil Molla of village Kalabaria under the same Upzila. ASI Md. Mostafizur Rahman of Bagerhat DB police disclosed to the newsmen, acting on secret information that a huge assignment of Yaba is reaching Dariali Bazar DB police raided the area at night, arrested the drug traders and recovered 1160 pieces Yaba worth about Tk.2.32 lakh after searching their bodies. The ASI further disclosed that the arrested persons were professional drug traders. In this connection a case was lodged with Mollahat PS against the drug traders under Narcotics Act.
