Minor boy drowns in Sylhet

A 13 years old boy drowned in a Pond at Gujakair village in Nobigong upazila on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Samiya, Daughter of Faruk Mia of the village. Police and family sources said Samiya was playing in the courtyard of his house in the Morning. At one stage, he fell down into a Pond adjacent to his house. Later, the family members searched him everywhere and his body was found in the water of the Pond.
Shops gutted in Sylhet
A shops were gutted as a devastating fire broke out at Bishanather Gown under Bandar Bishanat area in the Sylhet early Tuesday. Locals said that the fire was originated from an electric short circuit around 2:30am at a Stationary shop and soon engulfed other shops. A loss of around Tk 25 lakh was estimated immediately by the shop owners, locals added. However, on information, locals and seven fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the blaze around 4:00am.
Drug trader detained with 2,000 Yaba tablets
RAJSHAHI: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged drug-trader with 2,000 Yaba tablets in Ranibazar area under Boalia Police Station in the city early this morning, RAB sources said. The arrested identified is Rakibul Islam, 38, son of Saiful Islam of the same area. On a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted raid at the area at around 5.30 am and arrested the person with contraband item. A case was recorded with Boalia Police Station in this connection and the seized goods and arrested person were handed over to the police, reports BSS.
6 hurt in Munshiganj road crash
MUNSHIGANJ: At least six people were injured when a bus plunged into a roadside ditch at Sashampur on Dhaka-Mawa highway in Sreenagar upazila on Friday. Hasan, sergeant of Hashara police camp, said a Mawa-bound bus of ‘Apon Paribahan’ plunged into a roadside ditch as its driver lost control over steering, leaving six passengers injured. Of the injured, one was whisked off to Mitford Hospital as his condition deteriorated while the others were given first aid. Police seized the bus but could not arrest anyone, reports UNB.
Woman killed in wall collapse in Savar
SAVAR: A woman was killed in wall collapse in Harindhara area in Savar on the outskirts of the capital on Thursday. The deceased identified as Piara Begum, 30, hailed from Sadarpur village in Chapainawabganj district. Police said Piara used to work as a cook at Metro Tannery in the area. On Thursday, a portion of wall of the tannery collapsed on her as a pipe used for pilling fell on the wall while she was working in the kitchen room of the tannery, leaving Piara Begum dead on the spot. Police recovered the body and sent it to a local hospital morgue for autopsy, said assistant sub-inspector of tannery police camp Kamruzzaman. However, none was arrested this connection, reports UNB.
CC camera installed at Jamalpur Railway station
JAMALPUR: Eight closed circuit cameras were installed in Jamalpur Railway Station recently to record the activities of people in the station area 24 hours. Railway station master Mohammad Zahirul Islam said with the installation of cc cameras the law and order situation in the station area will be improved as well as activities of criminals, pickpockets and ticket black marketing in the station areas would be dropped significantly, reports BSS.
Schoolteacher killed in Sirajganj road crash
SIRAJGANJ: A schoolteacher was killed in a road accident at Harinchara Bazar area on the Hatikumrul-Bonpara highway in Ullapara upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Afsar Ali, 39, a teacher of Pustigasha Banani Girls High School, a resident of Baraigati village of the upazila. Police said the accident took place when a Bhotbhoti (locally assembled shallow engine-run human hauler) collided head-on with a motorcycle around 4pm and left Afsar dead on the spot. On information, police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to morgue. A case was filed in this connection, reports UNB.
121 Jamaat-Shibir men held in Khulna
KHULNA: Police arrested 121 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its front organisation Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) on charges of planning to carry out subversive activities from Basupara area in the city yesterday. Officer-in-Charge of Sonadanga Model Police Station Maruf Ahmed said, being informed, police raided in the Basupara area and arrested them with huge Jamaat related jihadi books around 1.45pm, reports BSS.
