Non-govt teachers demand new pay-scale in Barisal

Teachers and employees of non-government educational institutions continuing their movement for inclusion in new pay-scale holding an agitation rally on Saturday threatened to lock institutions to realise their demands.The programme in front Barisal Ashwini Kumar Hall was organised by Jatiya Shikkhak Karmachari Front, Barisal divisional unit amid adverse weather. After the rally a procession marching on city roads handed over a memorandum to acting deputy commissioner Abul Kalam Azad to press home their demands. Divisional convener of the front Prof. Mohsin Ul Islam Habul presided over the programme demanding indiscriminate unitary education system by nationalization of their service. Aminul Rahman Khokan, Mojibur Rahman, Gouranga Kundu, Rezaul Karim, and other leaders of the front, addressed the rally.
Terrorist held after gunfight with arms in Bogra

A listed terrorist was arrested after a gunfight with cops at Altafunnessa Playground area of Jaleshwaritola area in Bogra town recently. Following the gunfight, police arrested the terrorist with a pistol, 3 round bullets, and a sharp knife from his possession and gun fight injured the terrorist in the leg and a Sub-inspector Zulhash Uddin, 34, also got injured. The terrorist was Rakib Ahmed, 30, son of Rana Mia living at Chelopara area of the town. Police sources said that acting on a tip-off, a team of police raided in Altafunnessa playground area of the town to arrest the listed terrorist and sensing the presence of law-enforcers, the arrested terrorist and his cohorts charged cock-tails and shot 5 round bullets from his pistol and tried to fled the scene.
1 fake journalists held in Sylhet

Police arrested one fake journalists from South Surma upazila of the district on Friday. The arrested are Anam Ahmed under Bishonath upazila. Police said the One youths had been collecting subscription for long from different persons at Kodomtoly area in the guise of journalists NTV. In this connection a case was filed with the Dakshin Surma police station and police conducted a drive at Kodomtoly on Friday.
Two houses robbed in Sylhet
Robbers looted gold ornaments, cash and valuables worth about Tk 25 lakh from two houses here early Friday. Locals said a gang of armed robbers entered the Oikotan 221-4 and Oikotan 221-5 of one Fojlul Hoque and Mojibur Rahman under PirMoholla area in Sylhet around 4:00am breaking the door and looted 20 grams of gold ornaments, cash, mobile phone sets and valuables worth Tk 25 lakh. Airport Police Station OC Gousul Hossain confirmed the news.
Teenage boy drowns in Noagoan

A teenage boy drowned in a pond in Bangabaria area of the district town on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Fardin, 16, son of Abdulla Khan, a resident of Purana Paltan area of the capital. Locals said Fardin went to visit his grandmother’s house from Dhaka several days ago. He drowned in the pond when he went to the pond for taking bath around 2:30pm. On information, a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and rescued him from the pond. Later he was rushed to Noagoan sadar hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Duty inspector Nurul Islam of Noagoan fire service station confirmed the incident.

11 Jamaat men remanded in Jessore
BENAPOLE: A Jessore court put eleven leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami on one day remand in a sabotage case. Police produced them before the court and sought three days’ remand. The court passed the order after the hearing on Saturday. Earlier on July 27, police in a drive arrested eleven leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from a mosque in Narendrapur Post Office area in Sadar upazila along with Jihadi books, leaflets and banners. The arrestees were identified as Abdul Malek, Jamaat ameer of Kochua union unit, its secretary Tariqul Islam and nine other activists. Later a case was filed in this connection, reports UNB

Shimulia-Kawrakandi ferry service resumes after 20 hrs
MUNSHIGANJ: Ferry service on the Shimulia-Kawrakandi route resumed on Sunday morning after 20 hours of its disruption for rough weather. SM Ashikuzzaman, assistant manager of BIWTC in Shimulia, said the ferry, launch and speedboat services were suspended on Saturday morning for strong current in the Padma River triggered by the cyclonic storm ‘Komen’. Launch and speedboat services also resumed for several times but had to be suspended again for strong current in the river around 9am, added the official, reports UNB.
