One person was killed and 20 others injured in a head on collision between a passenger bus and a covered van near Falsatia village under Sibalaya upazila on Dhaka -Aricha Highway on Friday morning. The victim was identified as Abdur Rouf 35, son of Kitabuddin of village Nishchintopur under Baliakandi upazila of Rajbari district. Barangail highway Police said the accident took place at about 7.45 am when a Paturia bound passenger bus of NNB Paribahan collided head on with a Dhaka bound covered van leaving 21 injured. The injured persons were admitted to Uthuli Upazila Health Complex, Manikganj Sadar Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Victim Abdur Rouf succumbed to his injury at Manikganj Sadar Hospital this noon while under treatment. Kazi Akramuzzaman in- charge of Barangail High- way Police said both the bus and covered van have been seized. But the drivers, conductors and helpers managed to escape.
IT training inaugurates in Chapainawabganj

A basic IT training was inaugurated at Krisnagobindapur Girls High School auditorium with the 20 women of Ranihati union. Md. Daud Ali, Headmaster, Krisnagobindapur Girls High School presided over the inauguration program of Learning and Earning development training Program under ICT division. Mirza Shakila Dil Hasin, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Chapainawabganj Sadar was present as the chief guest. Md. Toufiqul Islam, Upazila Secondary Education officer, Md. Saidur Rahman. Principal, Krisnagobindapur Degree College was present as special guest. Md. Sarajul Islam, Head Master, Krisnagobindapur High School, Md. Mazbahur Rahman, President, Managing Committee, Krisnagobindapur Girls High School were given their speech. The trainee students and the respectable person of the area were present on the program.
1 pipe gun, 5 bullets recovered in Pirojpur
PIROJPUR: Police in a drive early Saturday recovered a pipe gun and five rounds of bullet from the house of a drug peddler at Laxmipur village in Bhandaria upazila. Police had earlier arrested the drug peddler, Iqbal Mallick, along with his sister Dalim and brother-in-law M Alamgir Hossain at Battala in the upazila in possession of 85 bottles of Phensidyl syrup on Friday afternoon.Officer-in-charge of Bhandaria Police Station Kamruzzaman Talukdar said a team of police recovered the firearm and bullets following statement of Iqbal. There are 22 cases filed against Iqbal with several police stations in Pirojpur, reports UNB.
2 held with Yaba pills in Gazipur
GAZIPUR : Detectives in a drive arrested two people along with 500 pieces of Yaba tablet and four rounds of bullets from Bilashpur area in the city on Friday night. The arrestees were identified as Ashraful Alam, 38, son of Mafiz Munshi, and Badshah Jahangir, 34, son of Ahad Ali of the area. Tipped off, a team of DB police conducted a drive in Bilashpur rail crossing area on the Joydebpur-Shimultali road and challenged two private cars crossing the area. Later after a hot chase, police caught the two private cars and recovered 500 pieces of Yaba tablet and four rounds of bullet from the vehicles. Police also arrested two people in this connection, reports UNB.
Separation of fiber from jute plants begins in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA : Separation of fiber from the decomposed jute plants is going on in full swing in all the seven upazilas of the district during the current season.DAE office sources said a total of 1, 42,288 hectares of land were brought under jute cultivation in the district this year with the production target of 1, 56,594 bale of jute.Now, the growers are so much busy in separating the fiber from the decomposed jute plants kept under water of pond, canal, haor, baor and small rivers and also drying up the fiber in the sun to make them prepared for selling in the markets with much enthusiasm.The farmers are so much happy as they are getting better and unexpected price against their produced jute crop this year.
Per maund (40 KG) of jute is being sold in the local markets between Taka 1,400 and 1,600 as per quality, said Mokbul Hossain, chief inspector of jute here, reports BSS.
